Design Wall Monday

With a weekend of nothing but rain...
AND
my sewing machine back at home...
I HAD to put it to use.

The Bow Tie quilt that has been on my
Design Wall is
FINALLY
sewn together.

I'm planning on sewing the borders on this week.

In addition to working on the Bow Tie top,
I also sewed the blocks
from the Scrappy Challenge for March
together.

I am going to call this quilt
"Hope and Glory."

There isn't a lot of contrast with the colors I chose,
but these scraps were out and begging to be used.
 :)

I have REALLY grown to like
Purple and Green together.

Hopefully the borders will be added to this quilt
this week, too.

One of these quilts will be donated as a Silent Auction item
to an organization
that supports people with Special Needs in my community.
Which quilt would you be more likely to bid on in an auction?
(I know they aren't finished, but...)

Visit Patchwork Times to see what others are working on, too.

Happy Quilting!!

A mini finish...

Last night while watching
the NCAA Basketball Tournie
(it's almost over :( )
I finished sewing the binding down on
This little quilt.

This is the quilt I made for the
Doll Quilt Swap I joined.

The label needs to be added
then it will be sent off to its recipient in the
State of Washington.

It will difficult to give this one away!

:)

Enjoy your weekend!

Knitting Needles Friday

Here is the result of
sitting in the repair shop
for FOUR hours,
waiting for my car to be serviced.

A completed Sock Monkey!!

Isn't he cute??
Love the hat and the scarf.

This one is a gift for my god daughter,
made in her college colors.
(Hopefully she won't see it here!)

These guys are so fun to make....
I have request for two more!

I also finished one of the Kroy socks,
minus the Afterthought Heel.

The Heel will be added where the orange yarn is located.
The second sock is started as well.

Visit Patchwork Times to see what others are knitting!

Happy Friday!

Making up for Lost Time...

My sewing machine had been busy since it
Arrived back home.

After sewing the three backings together,
I began working on a mini quilt.

For the first time I have signed up to participate in a
Quilt Swap....
A Doll Quilt Swap.

The quilt has to be made from Civil War Reproductions,
 be 24" x 24" max
and finished by April 20th.

Well....
I had two mini blocks made from a
History Club Session
a few sessions ago and I had not done anything with them.

So, I made two more blocks,
added sashing and borders
and
TADA...

Finished size is 22 1/2" square.

(I LOVE this border fabric!)

These blocks are from the book
Faithful and Devoted
by Sarah Maxwell and Dolores Smith.

Next is the quilting, the binding and adding the label to this little piece.

Have a great Thursday!!

My Sewing Machine is Home!!

The call came on Monday
that my sewing machine was ready to be
picked up from the repair shop.

YIPPEE!!

I brought it home,
set it up,
and got to work.

Three quilts needed backing sewn,
so that is where I started.

Waiting to be ironed.

Tomorrow I am taking these three quilts to my
Long Arm Quilter.

I think this Batik scrappy quilt will be a baby quilt
for my niece who is due in July.

This will be be put away until Christmas!

And "Mardi Gras" will go on the guest room bed.

Binding needs to be made for all three.

WOOHOO!!
Onto the next project.

Happy Quilting!!

Design Wall Monday-Classic Santas

My design wall has not changed at all
since my sewing machine is still in the shop.
(It will be two weeks tomorrow!)

(patiently waiting to be sewn together)

However,
my hands have not been idle.

Last year I found this pattern full of these
WONDERFUL Santas.

I have always admired Sue Garman's work and
have wanted to make one of her quilts for a long time.

After receiving the pattern, which I'm not sure is still available,
I decided to make the
Santas from wool.

I began collecting wool and started working on them
the last couple of weeks.
They are so much fun to make!!

Here are the blocks I have finished:

  Swiety Nicotaj, the Star Man

 The Wassail Santa

 The Russian St. Nicholas

The Danish Julenisse
(He's my favorite so far!)

This Santa is prepped and ready to finish:

 The Swiss Samichlaus

There are 12 Santas in the pattern,
along with other blocks,
but I am going to make just the Santas.

I sure hope my sewing machine returns soon,
but I am having fun working on these guys.

Visit Patchwork Times to see what others are creating.

Happy Quilting!

Back to Knitting Fridays

It seems like it has been forever since
I have posted any knitting!
For being gone from the knitting posts for
Two weeks, I don't have a lot to show.

First, I am making progress on my latest
Sock Monkey.

I am working on the tail and will then
stuff and attach it as well as the arms.
Then just the ears and mouth are left to knit and attach.

Next,
I started working on another pair of socks.

I have not worked with the
Paton Kroy Sock yarn before
and it isn't bad.
It's not as soft as some, but I really like the
Stripes!
I'm fascinated that it can be dyed to stripe so evenly.

Last,
I do have a finish!!

I added the Afterthought Heel to these socks
and they are done!
I don't know why I was putting off doing the heels.
They are quite easy to do.

Visit Patchwork Times to see what others are knitting.

Have a great Friday!!

Back Home...

We had a fun time in NYC
and watched some GREAT basketball.
My team didn't win the conference tournament :(
but they are playing in the NCAA tournie.
Yay!!

So I get home, unpack, start the laundry and
head into my Hidey Hole to sew...
TOTALLY forgetting that
my sewing machine is not here!!
UGH!! Another week or so without it.
It's all good... it's not like there aren't
a million other things to be done.

For now, I decided to show some quilts
that I made before I started blogging.
A few years ago I realized that my bed was the only
bed in the house without a quilt.
How did this happen??

So...
I picked the fabric and pattern and got to work.

You know how much I love Kaffe Fassett fabric,
so I used his fabrics for my bed quilt.

The Shell Montage is one of my absolute favorites.

I used this in the blocks for the front and
was able to buy enough for the back on sale!

This photo looks like the colors of the quilt and spread don't go together,
but they really do!
The spread and pillows are not that green.

With the cold winter, this quilt has gotten a lot of use!
I'm ready to put it back on the quilt rack in my room, though.
:)

Happy Quilting!!

Go Rams Go!!

It will be a quiet few days in my
Quilting World.

I'll be thinking of projects in between
the clapping and cheering.

How Sad is this Picture??

It's time...
Time to take my Sewing Machine in for service.

:(

My desk looks so empty and sad.

Last night I told my husband that I need a
Back-up Sewing Machine.
He laughed.

The GOOD news is.....
It's Tourney Time!!

Our conference Basketball Tournament
begins tomorrow,
SO I will be watching a LOT of basketball
and, hopefully not missing my sewing machine too much!

:)

In preparation for the time away
AND the time without a sewing machine,
I prepped two more of the
Classic Santa blocks.

How cute is he??!!??

I am making them from wool
and have the stitching to do around the edges.

I had this one prepped already, still waiting for the
hand stitching.

Happy Quilting and Go Rams!!

It's Monday again...

I think someone has put the calendar on
Fast Forward!!
Here we are zooming to the middle of  March already...
March MADNESS is here and I am EXCITED!!
(For all of you College Basketball fans,
I hope your team did well and will be playing more this month.)

Okay...
Back to quilting...

This week I am working on a quilt
from a kit I purchased at one of my LQS's.
I had cut the pieces a while ago and was able to
just sew away this past week.

Bow Tie blocks are so quick and easy to make.

These aren't my favorite colors, but I like them together.

This quilt is going to be donated to an organization as a
Silent Auction item.
I need to get it finished before April!!

I also made more blocks for the March Scrappy Challenge.

From afar there is not a lot of contrast between the
two colors since they are the same value,
but I like how they are coming together.
Once more blocks are finished,
I'll play with the layout.

Please visit Patchwork Times to see what others are working on this week.

Happy Quilting!

Knitting Needles Friday

There isn't much to show this week
Knitting-wise.

I started another
Sock Monkey...

The legs are done and I am almost finished with
the body.

It's a bit cumbersome to knit with the legs
stuffed, but stuffing them after the body is finished
is not fun!

Here is the pattern I am using:

...purchased at Michael's.

Visit Patchwork Times to see other knitting projects.

Have a GREAT Friday!

The Party is Over...

The "Mardi Gras" party that is!
We only partied a few days into Lent,
but this quilt top is now finished!

This top is too big for my design wall so I had to pull out
my design floor again!

I was going to add another border in
Purple
but Mardi Gras is telling me she's done.

For one who is not a huge fan of purple,
I am really pleased with this quilt.
The greens and purples are wonderful together!
(Thank you, again, Linda!)

I ordered the backing and will get that pieced and then
off to my Long Arm Quilter.

Happy Quilting All!!

Playing while it's snowing

Well, we ended up with about 6" of snow yesterday...
a lot for my area of Virginia.

So while the snow was falling,
I was sewing!

I finished making the nine patches for the borders of
my "Mardi Gras" quilt.

Hopefully I'll get those sewn into rows in the next couple of days.

The other day Judy posted the

Well...
since I have all of these purples and greens out,
and since I cut too many 2 1/2" squares of each color,
I am using these for my scrappy blocks this month.
Judy is using 3 1/2" squares, so my blocks will be smaller.

Here is what I have so far:

My block

I made four blocks yesterday and played
a bit with them.

These are going to be fun!

Purple and green are taking over my "Hidey Hole"!

Happy Quilting!!
