Looking Back

Several years ago I made a quilt for my
Best Girl Friend
(I didn't take pictures! Oh NO!!)
and had some left over blocks.
These blocks kept screaming
OCEAN...SEA...WATER
to me.

So...
I took those left-over blocks and sewed them together
into a table runner size piece.

Then I appliqued fish, clams, sea horses, a starfish and sea grass
and had a ball.
I machine stitched water and more sea grass onto the piece
after the applique was complete.

I was so excited with how it turned out.

Then I tried to decide where to put it.

I carried this runner around my house a number of times,
trying to find a place that would display it.

I didn't want to cover the fish and shells up with
"Table stuff," so I kept looking.

Finally I decided it wasn't going to work on a table,
So...

I hung it on a wall.
Yep... stuck a few pins in it to anchor it to the wall
and it hangs in my hallway.

I love it!
:)

(I really need to take a picture of the original quilt
since this looks NOTHING like it!)

End of July??

It's the last Design Wall post for July??
REALLY??

Well, I did get some things done this week...

For those who missed it,
my Stripes and Dots top is finished.

I have decided to take this to my Long Arm quilter
and have her use her magic on this one.
I thought about adding something else to the border,
but the quilt is telling me it's done.  :)

Now that my Design Wall is open again,
I started on  a new Table Runner project.
(I'm on a Table Runner roll this summer!)

Last week my family spent a few days in
Virginia Beach and I visited the nicest little quilt shop called
Sarah was so friendly and helpful and she had a nice
selection of fabric.

While I was there I found a pattern I have wanted to make
for some time, but had not taken the time to order on line.

"Spicy Spiral Table Runner"

For a couple of years now I have made my siblings
and my mom a table runner or table topper and give them when we have
a mini reunion.

This will be the pattern for this years table runner.

So...

I gathered up the fabric....
(Each one has been Patriotic.)

Began cutting, sewing and ironing strips....

Then cut the wedges and sewed the first one together.

One done... five more to go!!

These are a lot of fun to make and it is so
neat to see the spiral come together.

I am using the 10 degree wedge ruler instead of the 9 degree
the pattern calls for,
so my runner is larger than the pattern size.

Rain and Two Finishes!

Yesterday it rained and rained here....
so I was able to play in my
"Hidey Hole"
for a while!

Today I have Two Finishes to share!

First, I completed the top of my latest quilt.
This top does not have a name yet,
but I love it!

I haven't decided if I will quilt this one or send it
to my long arm quilter, but I am leaning toward sending
it out.
It might need something fancier then what I can do!

This one was made with
Stripes, Dots and Shot Cottons
from Kaffe Fassett.

The second finish is a pair of socks I had
started months ago.  All they needed were the
Afterthought Heels to be completed.

I knitted the second heel last night and they are
ready to be gifted!

After finishing the pair above, I started knitting the
second sock on another pair I had started a while ago.
The pink yarn line in the first sock is where the
Afterthought Heel will be added.

I really enjoy knitting with the Kroy sock yarn.

No work was done on my sweater this past week.
I have read the directions for knitting the collar several times
and cannot figure out what they are telling me to do.
I think I am going to have to phone a friend!
Hopefully next week there will be progress to show on that again.

to see what others are creating!

Happy Friday!

Green it is!

I made my decision and
I LOVE it!

The quilt blocks are sewn together
and the top is waiting for the
Corner Triangles.

I'm almost wishing that I made this quilt
bigger.
Maybe another one will be in my future??
:)

Onto the corner triangles and then the borders.

Design Wall Decisions

I have a decision to make!

The Shot Cottons have arrived to be used as the
Setting Triangles for my
Striped and Dotted quilt.

Which one do I use?
I like them all!!

Here are the three choices...

I am leaning toward the green,
but really like the blue, too.
The burgundy is probably my least favorite of the three.

Hopefully I will be inspired soon so I can get this
top sewn together and off of my
Design Wall!

I have been working on my
Wool Classic Santas
and have added three more to the
"Finished Bin."

The wool gives these such dimension
and is easy to applique.

The last four Santas are prepped
and ready for stitching.

I finished prepping this last one
after I took the photo of the other three.

These five have been finished and are waiting for
the others to join them.

I need to start thinking of the design for the quilt.
The pattern has pieced blocks along with the
Santa blocks, but I'm not wild about that design.
It will be fun to plan the layout.

Second Baby Quilt...

...finished this week!
I have had this top finished for
some time, too, and
FINALLY basted and quilted it this week.

(I need to free up my Design Wall!)
This quilt was made with a
Charm Pack and a Jelly Roll.

Love all of the bright colors together.

This is larger than I usually make my baby quilts,
but I didn't want left over blocks.

I had this yellow pin dot fabric for the back in my stash.

With all of the pink, it will be for a girl,
so I added this cute flower fabric binding.

Just need to add the label and it will be
donated to my church.

Happy Quilting!

It's Beginning....

...to look like a
Sweater!

I had A LOT of time to knit this past week
(And trust me when I say I would have much rather been
doing something else! Almost anything else!)

Anyway...
progress has been made on my sweater!

The shoulder seams have been sewn together,
the bands have been added all around the sweater,

And the bands down the front are complete.

After looking at it like this, I am not thrilled with how
the colors fell for the front bottom bands.
The silver/gray color really stands out.
I would have to take out the button band before I could
remove and redo the bottom band, though.
I'll have to live with it for a bit and decide.

Next is the collar!

The Afterthought Heel was added to this sock
and the second heel is back on the needles, waiting
to be finished.

It was a productive knitting week!

Finished Baby Quilt

A few months ago my husband
asked that I make a baby quilt for a
co-worker of his.
The co-workers wife is due in August.

The top has been finished for a couple of months
and now it is quilted and bound...
ready for delivery!

To quilt this one, I used the #4 stitch on my Bernina,
with a stitch length of 3.0.
It's so cute with the chevrons.

I love the big polka dot backing.

I've posted this to
"Whoop, Whoop Friday!"
:)

Waiting for Solids...

This week finds this quilt
still in progress...

I've ordered a few solid
Shot Cottons
to see which color will be used for the
Setting Triangles.
I wish I had a local shop that
carried a good selection of
Kaffe fabrics...
or maybe not??
(I'd be in there A LOT!!)

While I wait for my order to arrive,
I've been playing with some
tiny HST's left over
from a quilt I made a few years ago.
I knew I had these, but didn't remember
how many I had!

The fabric is a Minick and Simpson line
from a few years ago.

The blocks will be 4" squares when finished.

Waiting to be sewn together.

Maybe I'll call this little mini
"Half Squared Fun."

More to play with yet!
I'm running out of designs for HST's...

Knitting progress

This week I have three pieces
finished for my Sweater!
AND
they are blocked!!

The neck decrease on the left front piece
Gave me fits!
I still don't know if it's been
knitted correctly,
but it looks okay...
there is a decrease.

Next is to sew the shoulder seams together and
then knit the side panels.

I might have a sweater by fall!

are knitting.

More Mini Finishes...

These little toppers were made from the
pile of HST's I found in a box.
I have NO IDEA how long they had been there!

Fun little quilts.
