Getting it Done December...

Well...
November was a bust for me.
I did not mark off
One
Thing
On
My
List!

I'll just move that list to December,
but will change the first item.

I've decided to send my
Blind Man's Fancy
to a long-arm quilter.
It's too big for me to do on my own.

So, here is my December list:
1. Finish the Courthouse Steps for my sister.
(I need to finish the blocks and then sew
the top together.)

2. Quilt and Bind the 3 mini quilts.
Two are quilted and have the binding machine stitched in place;
the third needs to be quilted. I ripped out what I had done. :(

3. Make the angel ornaments.
I need to get going on these TODAY!!

4. I cut the pieces for Missouri Crossing.
Now I need to sew them together.

Hopefully my December list will have some checks at the end of the month!

Happy Quilting!

How many days until Christmas??

....and I am so far behind!

I have knitted gifts ready to wrap...

Quilted gifts ready to wrap...

And I just finished these basic placemats...
(Great project for practicing my FMQ!  I have a LLLOOONNNG
way to go!)

But I have not started making my ornaments...
OR
Decorated a thing....
OR
Written out a card....
OR
Done my shopping for purchased gifts....

Instead...
I am working on this:

I'm sewing the first section of last year's
Just Take 2.

Wouldn't we ALL rather be creating??
*sigh*

It somehow manages to get done,
doesn't it?

Happy Quilting!

Design Wall Monday...

Last year I decided to participate in the
"Just Take 2" block of the month.

I did really well for the first three months...
Kept up with the blocks...
Even made the ones I didn't like....
and suffered through all of the paper piecing.
(I'm not a fan....)

THEN...
the wheels fell off.

Too many blocks I wasn't wild about...
I dropped farther and farther behind...
and then gave up.

Well...
I have all of these blocks finished
AND
I need to do SOMETHING with them!

First I put them all on my NEW design wall.
:)

Then I found the directions for assembly of the
first three months blocks and decided to
put this section together.

Here is what I have:

I think I will at least sew these together
and see if I feel motivated to do any more.
I have about half of the second quarters
blocks completed.

After seeing these blocks together,
I realize that this is not my style
of quilting at all.

Live and learn!

Sewing Day with my Sister...

My sister isn't too interested in sewing...
Most of the Time.
(She is an AWESOME crocheter!)

For the last five years we have gotten together and
made a Christmas gift or two
for someone in her family.

This year she asked if we could make bags
for her two daughters.

We decided to take these:

(We didn't use the cute little skirt on top.... yet!)

And turn them into
THESE!!

Aren't they fun??!!

I'm quite proud of my sister...
I was the designer, but she did
MOST of the sewing!

They will be a hit with
her daughters, I am sure!

I made one after she went home
for my mom to give as a gift.

Not bad for a $1.99 denim skirt and some fabric!

Happy creating!!

Knitting Needles Friday...

Since I was out of town
last Friday,
I have a few things to show
this week.

Flying for hours each flight
allows for LOTS of
knitting time!
I was able to complete several projects.

First:

The Afterthought Heels are finished
in my John's Basketweave socks!

Second:

I made a pair of mittens
in our team colors
for my daughter.

Third:

I took Judy's advice and made a pair of
for my other daughter.
These are so much fun and so easy to make!

Then....
I started another pair of
Fingerless Mitts.

AND
Another pair of socks!

Happy Friday!

Design Wall Monday...

The past few days found me
on an island...
watching a
College Basketball tournament!
(My team didn't do so well.)
:(

Since I was courtside for several days,
not much sewing was accomplished!
Maybe next time
they could put sewing stations courtside??

:D

Before I left, I did quilt these
minis.

All that is needed is binding
and they will be finished.

Back In the Winter....

...I took a class at the
Mid-Atlantic Quilt Fest.

I don't remember what the class was called,
but
I had so much fun with it!

We decided what would be on our quilt....
Then....
dyed Silk Organza
to compliment our design.

We made a layered quilt,
with part of the design being on the background
and
part on the dyed Organza.

The technique does add
depth to the quilt.

Some quilting was done on the background
and
some on the quilt after the
organza was added.

The binding was a bit of a challenge
since the organza is a bit slippery.
It was a fun quilt to make
but, I don't think I'll make another on my own.
 Too many products to purchase!

I'm happy with
"Under the Sea."

Design Wall Monday...

Last year I made a
Courthouse Steps
quilt for my mom.

My sister LOVED it.
 So....
I'm making one for my sister!

I cut the strips a bit ago
and was able to get some of the blocks
sewn together this past week.
The sewing goes very quickly!

I'm a little more than half way finished with the blocks.

While I like these colors,
they aren't my fave,
but...
they are my sisters.

My design wall is still not finished,
but I am working on it.
I'm using insulation squares covered in flannel.
Had to buy a new staple gun.
:(
Mine was jammed!

On My Needles....

I've been a bit of a knitting slacker
this week...
One place I like to knit is
in the car while my husband is driving.
It gets dark so early now and
I can't see to knit. :(

Anyway....

I did work on my Boneyard Shawl  a bit.

I also worked just a little on my
"Rosebud" socks.
I need to get these finished!

The good news is
I needed to see what I have
finished for gifts this Christmas.

Here is my pile of completed socks.

In addition, I completed
three shawls.
They need to be blocked.

I have a few more things to make,
and Christmas is just around the corner!

Happy Day!!

Using Left Over Pieces....

I made this
Baby Quilt
for my Niece's baby
back in the spring.

In making these pieced
Flying Geese,
I had triangles left
after sewing the
"yellow sky" in place.

From these "Scraps"
I made this little quilt
a while back.

 Have I mentioned that
I LOVE POLKA DOTS??

Such a fun, happy little quilt.

Have a polka dottie kind of day!
:)

It's Monday....

... and my Design Wall is a
bit bare.
I actually haven't put it back up
yet after my room remodel.

One of my Quilty Friends
has made a couple of
purple and green quilts
and they are beautiful!
I have never been much of a fan of
purple, but...
I was inspired.

SO.....
I began collecting purples and am making
a purple and green quilt.
:)

I'm just starting on the blocks and
I'm not sure about the toile, but will
make a decision after more blocks
are completed.

I'm also using the
Triangles on a Roll
for the first time.
Not sure I'm a fan...
It seems to take a lot of time!
We shall see.

While my room reno was going on,
I cut out the pieces for three quilts.
I couldn't go anywhere and this
was something I could stop and start easily.
Now they are ready for stitching!

A Courthouse Steps Quilt

 A Snowball Quilt

And a Missouri Crossing Quilt

These will keep me busy for a while!

are working on now.

Happy Quilting!
