Design Wall Monday

This week I have two projects that I am

playing with on my

Design Wall.

The first is the

Purple and Green

Edyta Sitar's "Garden Path" Quilt.

Last week this is what I had on my design wall.

After living with this for a few days,

I decided I did not like the purple 6 1/2" squares.

They were too dark.

So...

I switched them out with this fabric...

This purple fabric plays better with the

other purples in the blocks

AND

I find myself looking at the overall quilt

instead of the big purple squares.
The greens pop more, too, with this purple.

I have a few more HST blocks to trim and sew together

into the "arrow" blocks and then I can begin sewing
the top together.

It's coming along!

(After looking at these photos,

I realize that I have to flip the HST blocks...

the "arrows" are going in the wrong direction!)

The other project I am working on is one that

I've had in my head for a while....

a dangerous place to be!

:D

While I had my Kaffe fabrics out for another project,

I started picking fabrics for some Dresden Plates.

I'm not sure where this will end up,

but it's fun to play with the colors and fabrics.

I LOVE Kaffe Fassett fabrics!

For the February Scrap Challenge

from Judy at Patchwork Times,

I decided to use my Kaffe scraps.

Well....

These fabrics and colors have certainly brightened up

My February!

Again,

I'm controlling the scraps to a certain point.

I need a little order!

If these colors weren't bright and bold enough...

I added this bright blue for the sashing and borders.

A friend wants a new table mat for her kitchen table.

Her kitchen has yellow, blue and orange.

Should be fun in there!

Now to get it quilted.

Knitting Needles Friday

Wow... it's Friday already!

This is been an odd week

with all of the snow and preparations for

The Snow!

Thankfully it wasn't as bad as they predicted.

This week I continued to work on

two pair of socks.

Depending on how much I needed to pay attention

determined which pair I worked on at that time.

Here are the Hermione Everyday Socks

again... still!!

These are knitted with Madelinetosh Sock Yarn in

Spectrum.

Next is a pair of just plain Jane socks,

knitted with On-line Supersocke yarn.

 

I'm knitting the

Afterthought Heels

in this pair. 

The heels will go where the blue and red yarns are knitted

in the body of the sock.

Hopefully next week both pair will be finished!

My Supplies are ready!

We are expecting a LOT of snow here in Virginia

beginning tonight and going into tomorrow.

Our Governor has issued a state of emergency

and recommends that we have three days worth of

supplies on hand.

I am ready....

I have three days worth of

Thread,

Fabric,

Rotary cutter blades,

AND

Ideas!

I just hope I have power for these three days!

If the power doesn't cooperate...

I have three days of

Yarn,

Knitting Needles

AND

Sock patterns!!

Yesterday I finished binding the

Third quilt I picked up from my

Long Arm Quilter.

I purchased most of the reds and a few of the other fabrics

for this quilt

two summers ago while I was at a family reunion in

Southern Ohio.

I saw so many beautiful

Barn Quilts

while on this trip

that I'm thinking of somehow using this in the name of this quilt.
(I'm not good at naming my quilts.)
Any ideas?

Design Wall Monday

The ONLY good thing about cold weather

is....

I don't feel as bad about the time I 

spend sewing!

:)

This week I have a Finish

AND 

I dug out a quilt I started a while ago.

This past week I picked this quilt up from my

Long Arm Quilter and I finished sewing the binding

on it Sunday afternoon.

My Christmas "Blind Man's Fancy."

I might call this one "Christmas Fancy."

 

 

This has to be near the top of my

favorites list.

And to think I was about to give up on finishing it!

The quilting is difficult to see, but my quilter did a

WONDERFUL job on this quilt.

I will put this away to use at Christmas.

Now I am continuing the work on a quilt I started a few months ago.

A quilting friend of mine, Linda, has made some

BEAUTIFUL green and purple quilts

and this inspired me.

I found a pattern I really liked in

 Edyta Sitar's book, 

Friendship Triangles

called

"Garden Path Quilt."

I thought this would be so pretty in purples and greens,

so the collecting began.

Here is what I have done so far...

 

A little over half of the blocks are finished,

but I am deciding if I'm going to make it large enough

to fit on a queen sized bed. 

This would look GREAT in my guest room!

Knitting Needles Friday

Well...

This week I did not have a

Bus trip to a Basketball game

or

any hours long doctor's appointment

(Thank Goodness!).

So I didn't get as much knitting done.

I did finish one

Hermione's Everyday Sock

And started the second sock.

These are for me I think!!

You can see the texture of the pattern in this photo.

It's a fun pattern to knit.

I did get just a little work done on my

Sock Monkey,

Someone commented last week

that it looked like I was

knitting pantyhose.

:D

One of my favorite things.....

..... with quilting is

Binding the quilt.

I enjoy making the binding...

sewing the binding to the quilt....

and hand finishing the binding to the back of the quilt.

It means the journey for

this particular quilt

is coming to an end.

The quilt will be ready to be hung,

to be given to someone,

or to be put on a bed.

This week finds me binding

THREE Quilts!

They were returned from my Long Arm Quilter

and are ready for their finish.

The quilts are trimmed and ready for binding.

 

Binding is cut and sewn into the long strips.

 

Ironed and ready for sewing.

One done... two to go!

 

 This Courthouse steps is for my sister.

Now it needs a name and a label.

Design Wall Monday

Last week at this time I had the

blocks for this quilt about

half done.

I thought about stopping there,

but...

I had all of the pieces cut

and what would I do with those?

So...

I persevered and here is the 

Completed top!

This quilt is from

Jo Morton's book
"Coming Home."

One of my LQS's had it made up and

I loved it, so I purchased a kit.

This was a humbling quilt to make.

For some reason I had difficulty

matching points and getting things even.

I also did not like the large beige outer

border on the original quilt,

so I just stopped after adding the 

narrow borders.

I will send this to my

Long Arm Quilter

and have a new quilt at

Christmas!

Yay!!

February Get It Done...

Well... January is behind us

and I am pleased with what I was 

able to accomplish during the month.

During the last month I was able to

check off three things from my

January Get It Done list.

First, the baby quilt was finished

and mailed to the new wee one.

I see another quilt like this in my future.

Secondly,

I finished the top of my

Mini Christmas Quilt.

I'm not sure if I will hand quilt this little quilt

or machine quilt it.

Thirdly,

I FINALLY started working on the

Missouri Crossing Quilt.

As of today, all of the blocks are sewn together

into a top. The borders will be added this afternoon.

This quilt was not my favorite to make, 

(although I'm pleased with how it turned out)

so...

I do not see another one of these in my future! 

:D

The fourth item on my January list was not touched.

This will be the first item on my

February list.

Here is my February List:

1. Work on Purple/green quilt

(I need a name for this one!)

2. Quilt the mini Christmas Quilt

3. Begin work on the wool Santa Quilt

4. Blue and Brown Snowball Quilt

Scrappy Challenge for January

Judy at Patchwork Times

has challenged us to use our 

Scraps!

The block for January was so much fun to make.

I used my batik scraps,

but as I mentioned before,

I am not a

"Scrappy Quilter."

I need SOME control!

This Top is what I ended up making

with the blocks.

I added a very simple border,

but it pulled the blocks together.

 

This one will go to my

Long Arm Quilter

this week...

It is too big for me to quilt myself.

Looking forward to seeing what Judy has

for the February Block!

Knitting Needles Friday

During this past week, I had some

large chunks of time to 

work on some knitting.

First, I was on a bus trip going to a

Basketball game ( my team won!!)

and almost finished

one Hermione's Everyday Sock.

This pattern has such nice texture and is a fun

sock to make.

I am using Madelinetosh Sock Yarn in "Spectrum."

The second chunk of knitting time I had this past week

was not nearly as exciting as a 

basketball game,

but I did get a fair amount of work done on

this sock:

I needed a mindless project, so this is a

Basic Sock with Opal yarn.

I do love the striping with this yarn.

I am also making this with the 

Afterthought Heel...totally mindless.

(The Heel will be added where the 

blue thread is seen...)

THEN...

I was in Michael's the other day and

found this book:

 

I have a friend who

LOVES

Sock Monkeys.

This book came home with me

along with some yarn

and this is what I have so far.

This is knitting up quickly

because of the larger needles and yarn.

So far, so good!

Design Wall Monday

This week I was hoping to have a

completed quilt top to show

But...

This Missouri Crossing

is a frustrating block for me

to make.

I don't know if it is me

or the block

but I can't seem to get the pieces where I want them to be.

(It is me!! :D)

Lots of trimming

but they are coming together.

This isn't quite half the blocks for the top.

Slow and steady wins the race.

(I'm not a slow and steady kind of person, but sometimes....)

THEN....

Look what I found!

"Santa's Toile"

For the backing!

This is going to be a Christmas Quilt

so....

How perfect!!

(AND it was $5/yard!!)

Christmas in January...

Friday Knitting

Here it is...

Friday already!

This week I do have one finish.

The Susie Rogers' Reading Mitts

are finished and packaged

to be mailed to my

sister in law.

I really like this pattern!

I have another skein of this 

Alpaca yarn and will probably make

this pattern again. 

Next on the needles is...

Hermione's Everyday Socks.

I'm using a Madelinetosh Sock Yarn

in "Spectrum"

and LOVE working with this yarn.

This pattern is fun,

 easy and pretty mindless.

It has a neat heel,

but I might just use the 

Afterthought Heel.

We shall see if I want to be counting, etc.
