This past week was an emotional one for my family.
We all gathered in Michigan...
my siblings and their families,
my one remaining aunt and her husband
and lots of cousins...
and had the interment of my mom's ashes.
She would have been so pleased that so many gathered
to say their final good-byes.
It was a beautiful day in Algonac... a little town
on the St. Clair river.
It was in the 70's with a soft breeze and blue skies.
We shared a delicious meal after the interment
and had time to visit and catch up with each other.
Rest in Peace, Mom.
Upon my return home,
I picked up my sewing machine from it's
yearly clean and service
and put it right to work yesterday.
The Iris quilt is now finished.
This was a quick quilt to make and jelly roll friendly.
The most daunting part of the construction was trimming it.
I marked it with a frixion pen first to make sure it was square
and then trimmed the sides.
I quilted it with a grid and used a color of the Ombre
that I had not used in the quilt for the binding.
It's labeled and ready to deliver to the sweet little one.
Sounds like the perfect wrap-up to a wonderful life. That Tula Pink is the perfect background for those fabrics.
What a lovely tribute to your Mother's life....
I think your rainbow piece is really pretty...nice work hugs, Julierose
My condolences on your loss, but what a lovely way to honor her by gathering so many together who knew and loved her.
The quilt is so cute. That background was a perfect combination with those colors.
I’m sure it was an emotional time for all, but it sounds lovely. Your quilt finish is beautiful. I would have been terrified with the trimming.
So sorry for your loss and so wonderful so many were gathered for her final tribute.
I am sure your mom was peeking over your shoulders and smiling. Your quilt turned out gorgeous. I have not been brave enough to dig mine out and press good and get it trimmed.
What a great little quilt with the leftover ombre fabrics.( I like your big one as well.) So cute and visually striking. And as you said, simple and easy to put together. Win win
Glad to hear that family was together to celebrate the memory of your mother. A mother's love leaves such an impact on us even after she is gone. I know you will miss her dearly and hope that you have treasures to commemorate her.
