Another Found Treasure

I'm almost embarrassed to tell you about my latest find from the
 cabinets in my Hidey Hole,
but confession is good for the soul, right??

Six years ago, yes... SIX!.... my goddaughter
(the one who was married in May)
asked me to help her with a school project.
She is very artistic and had to make a project for a class
her Senior year of high school.
I can't remember what the theme was or what the project was supposed
to represent,
but she asked if I would help her make a quilt.

Of Course I would!

She came over and went through my fabric stash and found
fabrics she wanted to use
and away we went.

My goddaughter had sewn some,
so she did a great job putting this quilt top together.
She received an "A" for her project
and was really happy with the results.

Then it came back to me to quilt.
And there it sat....
hidden in a cabinet.
OH, I'd find it every once in a while
and remember that I needed to get it quilted,
but back into the cabinet it went.

My goddaughter never said anything about it,
but her mom asked about it recently.

Wow! How could I have NOT quilted it in all of these years?

Last week I pulled it out,
found some backing fabric,
pin basted it,
quilted it,
bound it,
and.....

It's finished!

It didn't take long to quilt once I sat down to do it.

Maybe it was waiting until I could quilt feathers into it?
Six years ago it would have been straight line quilting all the way.

I don't know why we do this....
start something and not finish it for years.
How often, when we do finish it, do we say
"Why did I wait so long?"

It is finished and will be delivered to her this week.
She doesn't know I've finished it,
so, hopefully, will have nice surprise.
Hopefully she remembers making it!
:D

I picked these from my garden last night.
They are the biggest zinnia's I have ever seen!

I'm linking to Judy's Design Wall Monday at
Small Quilts and Doll Quilts.

Happy Quilting!

Hi Ramona,
What a nice surprise for your niece. I am 100% sure she will remember that you made it together, and will treasure that it is finished. It may even prompt her to start another project and she can quilt herself. Maybe?! The zinnias are gorgeous! I never have any luck with them . . . ~smile~ Roseanne

The good thing it is now done, and done well-your feathering looks great! What are the white flowers in with the zinnias?

I think it was waiting until you learned to make feathers! Feathers are so much better than straight line for ths project. I love the feathers!
Good job. I only work on a quilting project if it is fun. Storing it for a while doesn't bother me. And remember, there are no quilt police.

Congratulations for getting that done. I think we all have those long lost projects sitting around. It took me until 2010 to get my millennium quilt done, I had another quilt I just got done for someone that I have had for probably 20 years, and I have a log cabin quilt top I made in the late 70's that is still not quilted! Life gets in the way and other projects take precedent so other projects get put on the back burner. I am sure your goddaughter will be thrilled to get this.

Very pretty and it will likely be a pleasant surprise for her. Your flowers are lovely too. They remind me of my mother's garden decades ago. She always had lots of variety.

Beautiful quilting and what a wonderful surprise for her. Some projects just appear at the right time you probably wouldn't;t have quilted it like that 6 years ago but what you did really compliments and show off the piecing.
Well done!!!!!

What a lovely finish! It is amazing what we stash away. Remember I am the one who had 50 unquilted tops in my cupboards! When you finish all your projects, I will gladly ship you some of mine! :) Your feathers are beautiful.

Wow! The feathered wreath is just perfect for this quilt. She is going to be so pleased that you have finished her quilt. The zinnias are really big and gorgeous. I can't seem to grow zinnias, they are never as pretty as I see them in other yards.

Thanks for commenting on my blog. It is always encouraging to hear what others have to say about what I am doing. I need to pick out the next block and get it prepped so I can stitch whenever I have a few minutes.
