Something New...

I'm going to be doing something new...
new to me anyway.
I haven't hand quilted anything significant in years,
or ever, actually.
Little things here and there have been hand quilted,
but not a whole quilt.

I am so intimidated by this project,
but I need to put my big girl pants on and do it!

It's been sitting here for way too many years,
waiting to be finished.

It's a quilt top that my great-grandmother, Lou Etta Kemmeter, hand pieced many years ago.
It's all basted and ready for the quilting to begin.

The fabrics in this top are so soft from wear and washing.

I can't help but wonder when she pieced this top?
What did the clothes look like?
And who wore them?
Were any of them my grandmother's?
And how long did it take her to piece this top?

I'm trying not to worry about what my stitches will look like
as I work on this quilt.
As someone said, my great-grandmother would be thrilled that
it's being finished.

Happy Quilting!
Hand and otherwise.
:)

My first hand quilting was a queen size top. I was amazed at how quickly it goes. You can do it! The top looks great.

She did a fabulous job on the top. I know you can do the same on the quilting. Don't worry about the length of your stitches; just work for consistency.

Applauding you for stepping outside your comfort zone. It's an amazing quilt that really does scream for hand quilting. Not sure I could take on such a project, so I admire anyone who can and does. Looking forward to watching your progress.

Knowing your work, it will be first class quilting. Your great grandmother would be so proud of you. Hand quilting can be so relaxing. I need to do more. Basting is least favorite part of the process.

Love the quilt. Wish I could hand quilt still. Hand surgery pretty much rules any hand work out.
