Slow Sewing

The other night I had a sewing buddy in my Hidey Hole!
My oldest daughter has Down Syndrome
and usually doesn't want much to do with my quilting.
Going to quilt shops is the worst for her
and often involves some kind of a bribe.

Her piano teacher has a birthday soon
and Doodlebug decided that she was going to make her teacher a
table runner for her birthday.
I had the perfect piece of fabric...
pretty design that would look great just quilted.

Out came the fabrics and batting,
I basted the pieces
and set Doodlebug in front of the sewing machine
with the walking foot in place and the speed on
SLOW.

She had a blast quilting this runner.

The lines are not precise at all,
but she is so proud of her accomplishment,
as she should be!

I sewed the binding on and it's ready to wrap.
Her teacher will be thrilled.

I'm continuing to play with the 2 1/2" squares I cut from my scrap pile
and have a baby quilt sewn together.

This top may be done.
I haven't decided if I will add a border or not.

I started to make a large quilt,
but decided I didn't need a large quilt right now.
I need baby quilts!
There's a population explosion going on in my world right now!

After cruising Pinterest,
I made these blocks with some of the squares and HST's.

Mr. Sunshine appeared just like this after the cutting was done.
How cool is that?
Serendipity.

Happy Quilting!

The table runner is perfect for summer, your daughter did a great job. Your scrappy projects are looking great. A little unexpected sun is always a good thing to have happen.

What a great table runner, it will make a perfect gift.

You have such happy, bright scraps and it was totally fun that the sun ended up like that. I think it is going to be a lucky quilt.

She should be so proud of her work, Ramona. It looks beautiful. I wish I was there to see her teacher's face when she sees it. You two did a great job and hopefully, she will do more now.

I love what you are doing with your scrappy squares.

It's called organic quilting and you and her both should be proud as punch!! Her teacher will absolutely love it. Nice work on your scrappy progress too.

Had to click on the link showing 2.5" squares. It is gorgeous. Yeah, I have been to so many baby showers in the last couple of years, I can totally understand the population explosion. Baby quilts are fast and so cute that I don't mind the explosion :-)
Hugs,
Preeti.

Your Doodlebug did a wonderful job on her runner! I know that made you happy to have her stitching and enjoying it. Her teacher will be thrilled with her gift. Babies are coming out of the woodwork around here too! That's a wonderful way to use your scraps - I have a similar one in progress. Isn't Pinterest amazing? It's where I go when I need to spark my enthusiasm. Amazing that you fussy cut that sun so perfectly without even trying!
