Gerriann in Progress

A long, long time ago (at least 5 years ago)
I bought the pattern and some of the orange batiks
to make this cute giraffe wall hanging.
Since then, the pile has been sitting in my cabinet.
This past week it was time to make her and
release her from cabinet jail.

It took me about three hours to trace the pattern pieces
onto Wonderunder, cut them out, play with the
fabrics and make the top.

The pattern is helpful in figuring out which
pieces need to be cut from light, medium and dark fabrics.
Playing with the fabrics and piecing the giraffe was lots of fun.
Borders will be added to the outside after I figure out what fabrics to use.
The pattern has a border closer to the giraffe,
stitched onto the background,
but I'd prefer them to be around the outside.

After the borders are added,
it will time to machine applique the pieces in place.
I'm thinking of using monofilament thread so the thread
isn't what one sees when looking at this.

I'm excited to have Gerriann come to life and hope to get her finished soon.
This pattern, along with many other cute animals and
designs can be found here.

I am linking to Design Wall Monday today.

Happy quilting!

Great colors/fabrics on your giraffe. He looks so real. I bet it feels so good to get this project moving toward the finish line. Good job!

Gorgeous! You did ALL that in 3 hours? It would take me 3 hours just to trace all the pieces! Knowing what value was needed for each piece was definitely a benefit.

The giraffe is looking wonderful. I did try using monofilament in one of my machines, we didn't really like each other! I probably should look into working with monofilament.

She is fabulous, Ramona. I love that and their other patterns are so cute too. Your fabric choices are really great. I’m glad you freed her from the pile.

Loves giraffes! I checked out the link and sure enough...I have one of her patterns, Morley Moose. Don't even know where it is...might have to look for it.

I have the elephant pattern. Forgot about it. Seeing your giraffe has inspired me to get it out of the pile.

I'm afraid I cannot add anything original to what as already been said--other than I agree wholeheartedly with everything already written. This is absolutely exquisite. I am neither a fan of giraffes or orange but this is truly stunning and quite beautiful. I'm going to have to look for a similar pattern for an elephant....maybe a pink one? :) Blessings from a VERY cold WV; hope our "sister state" is a bit warmer.
