Ellie is Finished!

A couple of months ago (or longer!)
I started a baby quilt for my
Grand Niece.
Her mom, my niece, LOVED a
Puffalumps Elephant
when she was little and this elephant,
went everywhere with her.

Last year I was in a quilt shop and found a pattern of an elephant
named Ellie.
How could I NOT buy it for a future baby quilt for this niece?
Well, her baby was born in May
and I am going up to see them in July.
Time to finish this baby quilt!

Here is Ellie.

Isn't she fun??

The pattern had just one eye,
but as I am looking at this,
do you think she needs another eye?
(It's amazing what stands out in photos!)

I had no gray fabrics in my stash,
so had to go hunting for the fabrics.
Putting Ellie together Crazy Quilt style was fun and
MUCH easier than the pattern suggested.
(Thanks for the idea, Libby!)

I found this text fabric to use as the inner border
and then quilted words into the outer border...
kind of like a secret message.
It's hard to see the words, but they are there!

This Elephant fabric is
"Karavan" by Valori Wells
and makes a perfect backing for this quilt.

I hope Ellie is as loved by my Grand Niece
as her mom's Ellie was by her.

Happy Quilting!

Ellie is beautiful and the backing fabric is perfect.

When my kids were young my sister sent Elmer books. They were popular with my boys.

This is darling! Your fabric choices are wonderful. I did wonder what happened to her other eye though.

That is beautiful! She is going to love it. I think the one eye is fine as the elephant is at an angle where if you add another eye, it might look strange.

Elmer were still popular books when I was the media specialist at an elementary school 7 years ago.

That is such a great quilt. I love your elephant. Try putting a half eye on the right side and see if you like it. Or a whole eye... I'm not sure it really needs it though. Mom will love this quilt and hopefully so will her daughter.

Ellie is absolutely darling and so much better than any ordinary grey elephant. Thanks for sharing.

Eliie is absolutely gorgeous! Her "fur" is perfect. As for the eye, I think that one is enough as she's in a 3/4 pose.

She is truly beautiful!! It will bring back wonderful memories for your neice too :-) I think in this case one eye, as are looking at her from an angle.

Sweet elephant! I see what you mean about her eyes. I'd give her a partial circle otherwise they'd be too close together. She is so cute! Love the crazy quilt look!

I'm smitten by Ellie! I love elephants anyway and she's so charming. I think she needs another eye or part of one showing. So sweet!
