Binding Scraps

After binding a quilt, if there is any left-over binding
I put it in a bin in one of my cabinets.
Well, this bin was overflowing.
I couldn't fit any more binding pieces in it and
pieces were on the shelf around the bin.

My plan was to use these scraps for scrappy binding,
but that rarely seemed to happen.
The other day I had an idea to use the binding scraps
to make a scrappy quilt.

Out came the bin and I started sewing strip sets.
Once they were all sewn and pressed,
I cut them into squares.
I have enough squares for one larger quilt
and two smaller quilts!

I cut my binding 2 1/4" wide, so these squares will be 8 3/4" square when finished.
This larger quilt will be donated to the group that delivers quilts to the
Veterans Hospital.

It shouldn't take long to sew these all together
and then quilt it.

Once this larger once is finished,
I'll make the two smaller ones
and donate those as well.

Happy Quilting!

Great use of binding! I also typically use 2-1/4" strips.

Perfect idea for those binding scraps. I also cut mine at 2.25". However I wasn't smart enough to keep mine all together, they all went into the big scrap bin with everything else!

Wow you have been one busy lady finishing all these quilts. Are your binding strips bias or cross grain? Beautiful job either way. I really like your striped diamonds to the wonky stripes really works. I would have cut everything straight point to point. But I can be a bit up tight. The pieced plaid looks fabulous too. Beautiful quilts and quilting!!
