It feels like it has been YEARS since I have sewn anything.
I got through the shakes a few weeks ago,
which was tough. :)
The move went well... it happened about 2 1/2 weeks ago.
Most of the boxes that can be unpacked have been unpacked.
The problem is we need to have cabinets built in several different places.
One of these places is my hidey hole.
Right now there is nothing in there to store all of my quilting
treasures. I had to leave my cabinets in the old hidey hole
because they were built into the room.
I was over there yesterday and walked into my old room
and sighed. I really miss that room.
Right now this is my hidey hole...
Hopefully it will be ready for action in a few months.
The cabinet maker is super busy
and has a waiting list.
The other day I wanted to start cutting out a quilt
that I purchased the fabric for a while ago.
I found the fabric, but cannot find the 60 degree ruler I need.
I'm not purchasing another one because I already have at least two.
Hopefully I'll find one soon.
I also have 5 quilts to trim and bind.
(They were sent to my LAQ before we moved to get
them out of the house. She worked very quickly
and got them back to me right after the move.)
Do you know where the fabric is for the binding for these?
Yea.. neither do I.
As my mom always says,
"This too shall pass."
In the meantime, I am handquilting this quilt top that
my great grandmother made.
I started working on this a long, long time ago.
Unfortunately I do not enjoy hand quilting
and am not very good at it.
Plus I am very slow.
At least it's giving me something to do with my hands
and maybe I'll actually finish it!

Best of luck in getting organized enough to sew while waiting on that cabinet maker. The best thing is being able to plan those cabinets however you want them.
Moves are always stressful - both before and after. I've often said that I need to move every 5 years so that I am forced to declutter. But that hasn't happened. In the 44 years we've been married we've lived in 4 places. We've been in this house for 15 years and it scares me to even think about downsizing.
too bad you hadn't thought in advance to put the binding where you knew you could find it or the rulers etc - good luck in finding things so you can work on something the next couple months.
Welcome back to blogging good for you for hand quilting your grandmothers quilt I enjoyed handquilting a long time ago but now Id rather machine quilt. the rythem of the stitching will eventually come to you. and its amazing how it imporves with practice. Best wishes with waiting for the cabinets and shelving.
I have a bazillion 60-degree rulers and would be happy to send you one. Seriously, as a certified teacher (at one time) I received duplicates of every size! Tell me what size you need.
Your grandmother's quilt is lovely. A pretty thing to stitch while those cabinets are being built. As for all your missing things...they will turn up.
Wow... moving is tough.
I looked at your bow tie and it looks like mine. I had to smile.
I hope you find your ruler and/or bindings soon. I would be digging through every box until I came up with it!! Soon you will have a gorgeous room to work in again. Hang in there.
Reading the saga of your moving and organizing (or not) gives me a preview of what I’ll be doing in a couple of months. Good luck finding your rulers and binding. I’m trying to label all the boxes.
Take a deep breath; yes, your mother's words are correct; "this, too, shall pass". It doesn't matter how long it takes to hand quilt that beautiful bowtie quilt, it is linking you to your great-grandmother! What a true treasure. Sending you a big hug as you settle in, try and enjoy the process.
I feel for you, Ramona. It has to be soooo frustrating. One of these days it will all come together again. Your room looks like it will be beautiful when it does.
Oh, my gosh! I am so happy to hear from you! I have been thinking of your move and glad things are going. I especially sympathize with your inability to have your personal retreat area ready to go. How darn frustrating to wait and wait. But I am glad to see that you have something for your hands. I hope the bindings arise from the storage and that your rulers do to. Finding tools, fabric and time all together is one of the quilting challenges we face.
Oh, dear -- moving can be chaotic and stressful! I wish you many, many hours of happy sewing in your hidey hole once the dust settles, the cabinets are installed, the rulers and bindings have been located. Some people prioritize unpacking the dishes and their clothing first after a move, but I'm with you -- I can deal with all of the rest of it better when I'm not deprived of my creative workspace!
I really can relate to all the boxes of stuff after our flood this year. Our garage was full and we didn't even begin to make a dent in our possessions! However, I did not have to pack up most of my sewing stuff, only some of it. I would LOVE to have cabinets built, but alas, I have made do with shelving. I am sure you will find your ruler and binding fabrics soon. I do not enjoy hand quilting either, although I used to do a LOT of it. Like a queen size quilt in a month!
