Metro Rings

This year we were issued a challenge in my
History of Quilting group.
We were to challenge ourselves to make or finish something
we've been putting off
or to learn a new skill.
My challenge was to make a curved block.
I've been quilting for 15 years and have never made a block
with curves, except with hand applique.

A friend told me about the
Quick Curve Ruler
and I found a pattern I liked that used this ruler
and began to collect fabrics.

(After being folded up and in a bag, the top needs another good pressing!)

There were a lot of steps to making this block
between the sewing and cutting, sewing and trimming
and sewing and squaring up, etc.

I found it difficult to get a consistent distance between the arcs
and the corner pieces,
but once the blocks were all sewn together,
they don't stand out that much.

I would use this ruler again and would
purchase one of the patterns again.
The directions were very detailed and easy to follow.

And I LOVE the turquoise and gray together!

Now I need to decide if I'm going to add a couple of borders.
I'm thinking of a solid gray stop border and a wider turquoise print outer border.
I'll need to go fabric shopping, though.
Darn!

I linking up to Design Wall Monday at
Small Quilts and Doll Quilts.

Happy Quilting!

So excited for you to get this together. I have loved watching its developing stages. And darn, you have to go fabric shopping. Such a problem.

P.s. thanks for the note on my blog. I do appreciate it.

I have this ruler also and it has been sitting there for some time. I just love how yours turned out. Maybe after Christmas I will pull it out and give it a try. Yours is beautiful.

Wow! This is gorgeous. Congrats on learning a new technique! Your first try on curved piecing turned out wonderfully! I can not wait to see what you do for the borders, I know fabric shopping is so hard ;). Thank you for sharing!

Yep more fabric shopping is a chore, but somebody's got to do it;) I think you succeeded with your challenge.

Beautiful. I love the colours together.... any of the turquoise left over looks like it might go well in the new BH mystery!

I have that ruler but I am thinking of moving it along.

Pretty color combination! I don't have very much turquoise fabric in my stash - this quilt makes me want to get some turquoises to add to my quilting projects. Thanks for linking up with Design Wall Monday. Judy

Metro Rings is beautiful, for sure! (Nosey me wonders if you've pulled your fabrics for the newest Bonnie Hunter mystery...On Ringo Lake? )

I've been doing some surfing to look at quilts and then following rabbit trails - well, you know how that goes and I don't think I'm done. I found your beautiful Metro Quilt. I have the ruler and maybe even this pattern. I love your choice of fabrics. I have a good friend who has been hinting for me to make her a quilt. Of course, all my good friends have king size beds. I have issues with my health and my arms can be mush, so I don't know if I can do that or not. I had decided that I was going to make churn dash blocks toward a quilt and when I get too tired of making them, then I'll stop and make a quilt to the size of blocks I have. I have no problem with color - she loves pink. Thanks for the inspiration. I follow you on bloglovin'.
