On The Needles...

... are a pair of socks

I'm hoping to save

to give as a

Christmas Gift. 

I love to have an extra pair of socks made

to give as a gift,

if needed.

The color of this yarn is
Sea Glass.

Love it.

I finished this pair last week.

This color has the same name as my

Youngest Daughter.

Guess who will be getting these socks!

This Doesn't Count....

... as a New Project

Since

I had started prepping it

before my

BAN on starting

something new.  

I have to have a portable project 

to take with me

or

work in while "watching" sporting events on tv.

Now I can stitch around each piece and add the 

embroidery detail. 

 

I must say... I am looking forward to 

crisp fall days.

The heat of summer is what I really love,

but I am ready for a change.

 

All of the pieces are attached using 

Heat n Bond Featherlite.

Have you used this fusible product?

I LOVE it!  

It is lightweight and paper can be removed so easily from the back.

Now I am going to pin baste a table runner or two.

:)

No Design Wall For Me....

.... Until some 

Machine Quilting

is done!!

I have all of these projects to quilt!

These three minis are waiting to be finished.

I think I need to add borders to the two that don't have them.

Four Christmas table runners are in the "top only" stage.

December will be here tomorrow, I think!

I won't tell you how long it has been since I pieced

this table runner.  Time to finish it!

And I have two Christmas tree skirts that aren't skirts yet!

Plus there are the tops going to my Long Arm Quilter.

I told myself I am not starting anything new until 

THESE

ARE

FINISHED!

(We'll see how long that lasts.  :-D)
 

I did get my Disappearing Four patch sewn together....

.. another one that needs to be quilted.

A Little Sewing This Week....

It is always nice to get into

my Hidey Hole...

... even if it's only for a few minutes of creating.

I did complete the quilting and binding on

this little quilt.

It will stay in my cabinet

until

I am inspired to give it away.

Gifting....

... a quilt.

Most of the time, when I begin making a quilt

I don't have a recipient in mind.

They stay in my home,

in my cabinet

or

on a shelf

until I know to whom it is to be given.

I am hosting a Bridal Shower

for a dear friend's daughter on Saturday.

This quilt has been in my cabinet

waiting for a home.

The Bride-to-be

LOVES

color.

And lime green, turquoise and blue.

Perfect!

 

It can be used as a wall hanging or a table topper.

Prepping....

... another wool project!

My husband watches a lot of sports.

THEREFORE....

I watch (or listen) to a lot of sports.

(I do enjoy MOST of the sports he watches.)

I cannot just sit and watch anything, though,

so

I have a number of handwork projects going on at one time.

Last night I prepped this wool project to work on next:

I love the fall colors for the pumpkins and leaves.

The white pumpkins (ghost pumpkins, I think??)

stand out too much for my taste,

so I changed the color of those.

AND

I always am knitting socks or something.

Design Wall September 2

How are we in September already?

I did not have a lot of time for

sewing

this week :(

but I was able to get a little done on my

Disappearing Four Patch Baby quilt.

I don't know if this baby will be a 

Boy or a Girl

so....

I decided to make two of these!

One will have pink

and the other...

won't.

THEN
I will have a donation quilt made

for next summer already!

These blocks are so much fun to make!

AND..

I was in Lancaster, PA for a few days this past week

and found this.....

Striped batiks!!

Won't these be 

PERFECT 

for the binding for these quilts??!!

(I am not putting a border on these.)

One is "Tropical" and the other is "Primary"

but I'm not sure which is which.

RKaufman Artisan Batiks Elemental Stripes.
Hancock's of Paducah carries them.

.... with these two baby quilts

from my

Ten Things This Summer

list.

One is completed...

.. although, it almost wasn't

 with the machine quilting

mishap,

but the seam ripper became part of my hand

for a bit.

This will be sent to a friend who just had a baby.

Then this one is almost finished...

I need to quilt the borders

(which you cannot see in the photos)

and clip all of the threads.

Then bind it!

Can you tell that 

I LOVE POLKA DOTS???!!

Does summer officially end today or

on September 22nd?

Looking back....

....on the quilt I made for my 

Oldest Daughter's bed...

This quilt was a 

CHALLENGE!

Especially since I was new to quilting and...

what did I know??

The butterflies are Stack-N-Whack

BUT

The wing pieces are mirrored...

Meaning the back of the fabric had to show the design

almost as much as the front because the mirrored piece

was cut with the back as the right side.

You can see the slightly "faded" pieces that are

"upside down" shall we say?

The butterflies are made from a 

Hoffman print... I do remember that.

The border shows the whole fabric.

My Long Arm quilter did an

AMAZING job on this one, 

but it's hard to see her work on the fabric in a photo.

I can't remember the pattern name or the book from which it came.

Machine quilting....

.... is not my forte,

but... I keep working on it.

I can quilt a decent looking meander, 

but beyond that... not so pretty.

I quilted this baby quilt and have the binding sewn around

 the edge, waiting to be turned and hand stitched.

This is the quilt that I had this disaster on the other day.

NOT what you want to see on the back of your quilt!

HOWEVER...

A hanging sleeve will cover the problem!

AND... thank goodness the quilt can be hung from any side.

PHEW... problem taken care of 

and no need for the 

SEAM RIPPER!!

Once this is finished, it will be another check off of my

Ten Things This Summer list.

I need Bright Colors!

I was playing in my 

Hidey Hole
(sewing room)

and after working with all of the 

reproduction fabrics of late,

I NEEDED to get out my batiks and play.

I needed BRIGHT COLORS!!

Out came my box of 5" Batik squares...

I cut 5" squares from white...

and I began to make a

Disappearing Four Patch quilt.

(Great Tutorial at the link above.)

Let me tell you...

these blocks are so much fun

AND

go together so quickly!

Having a swivel cutting mat makes cutting these

a breeze.

Ready to take to the sewing machine!

 

Now to decide on the layout....

I am leaning toward the second layout, but

I like them both!

My color fix has been taken care of for a while!
