"Boy Quilt"....

.... Check....

I finished stitching the binding down
on the
Disappearing Four Patch
"Boy quilt"
this afternoon.

(Here is the "Girl" version.)

There is some pink in this one afterall...
in the striped binding.
I love this binding fabric for this quilt,
so the pink stays.

I am not OCD enough to cut the pink out the
binding....
but I did think about doing it.
:)

I normally hand stitch the binding,
but machine stitched this one since it is a baby quilt.

The backing was another sale fabric.
Love it!

I see more of these in my future,
but this is it for the
Disappearing Four Patch for now.

Happy Quilting!

It's Monday!!

And you know what that means!

Design Floor Monday!

I haven't worked on a quilt
for this length of time
in a long time
and I have enjoyed it!
The piecing is completed
after making
LOTS
of Flying Geese.

The top is sewn together...

I love the Flying Geese.

And now....
Borders or Borderless??
(The colors are off in the photo below for some reason.)

I don't have any fabric that will
work for borders.
What I have is
wwwwaaaayyyy
too busy.

Does this mean I
get to shop for fabric??
(I'm thinking it needs borders...)

Happy Quilting!

Slow and Steady....

.... on the Flying Geese.

I'm a trimmer...
For some reason I cannot sew
Flying Geese accurately.
SO....
I make them larger
and trim.

Piles waiting to be pieced
and trimmed.

I am pretty fast at piecing...
Trimming...not so much.
There is no quick way to trim!
Accuracy is key.
Slow and steady wins the race!

Happy Quilting!

On My Needles...

.... another pair of
Forgotten Socks.

Actually...
I had not forgotten about these socks...
I just never made the second one
for some reason.

Until now...
(I've done a lot of waiting...
.....and knitting this week!)

The photo doesn't show the zigzag pattern very well,
but it's there.

The pattern is
Lollypop
and the yarn is a
Madelinetosh,
but I don't remember the color.

Here are the Christmas socks I
finished this week.

These worked up quickly.

AND
I really liked working the
Afterthought Heel.
Making this heel seemed to go more
quickly than the gusset method.

I like how it looks, too.

Happy Knitting!

Let the Flying begin...

...Flying Geese that is!

The quilt will need
288
Flying Geese.

I need to get my wings flapping!

I was having trouble cutting fabric,
SO...
in went a new rotary cutter blade.
Still having problems.
I have had my rotary cutter for
YEARS!

Time for a new cutter?
Yep.
Cuts like a charm!
Like a hot knife through butter...

First dozen have taken flight.

Happy Quilting!

Design Wall Monday...

This has been a slower
Sewing Week,
but...
I did manage to sew the rest of
These blocks.

I was cutting the fabric
one block at a time
and then decided to
just cut the rest all at once.

Once the color decisions were made
and the fabric cut,
Sewing is easy!

I like this pattern as a square quilt.
Plus, I don't have a lot of fabric left
to make any more blocks. :)

I did add more brown to the blocks I
made this week,
so the blocks play together better.
And, yes...
some of my saw-tooth borders are running in
different directions.
Adds character, as my mother says. :)

Now it's time to make the flying geese sashing.
This will take some time!

happening in the quilting world.

Happy Quilting!

On My Needles...a new heel method!

The other day I was reading a knitting blog and
read about
"Afterthought Heels."

Have you ever knitted a heel
using this method?

(Here is a really good Tutorial.)

I am giving it a try.

So far so good....

A piece of waste yarn was knitted into the sock.
After I finished the sock,
I put the stitches back on my needles from
either side of the waste yarn
and pulled the waste yarn out.

Now I'm ready to knit the heel.

It's like knitting the toe
with decreases until there
are 10 stitches or so on
each half.

Here is the front of the sock.
The yarn is some Christmas color
"Tuesday Morning" sale yarn.
Good to use while experimenting!

And I finished the pink
Youth Socks.

The Boy Top....

.... is finished.

Can you look at any more
photos of my
Disappearing Four Patch Baby quilts?

I hope so!
Here is the "Boy" top.

I had sewn the blocks together last week,
but
hadn't pressed it until now.

Lots of Bright Boy colors.

Now to quilt and bind this one.

Still one of my faves!

Happy Quilting!

Design Wall Monday

I decided to switch things up a bit
and play with some
reproduction type fabrics this week.

These blocks are made from fabric
in the
Grace by Three Sisters line.

It is a Christmas line,
but
except for the pink, red and green colors...
I am not really seeing Christmas.

These blocks take a little time, but I am enjoying the process.

The block is called
"Blind Man's Fancy"

Okay... in these pictures I see Christmas.
Maybe it's the brown fabric that doesn't look
like Christmas??

I am not wild about the center of this block.
... or the brown, really...
I could replace the center...
I might like it better then...
Or maybe the whole block will go in the
orphan block box....

Time will tell.

what others are working on this week.

Waste not, Want not....

I completed the quilt with my
HUGE
mistake.

I'm calling this my
Off Center Tree Skirt.

Hey...
It's different...
unusual....
funky...

Okay, maybe not funky...

Do you think this will catch on
and
I will start a new trend???

Yeah...
me either.

BUT
I can use it for my tree that sits in the corner.

Happy Quilting...
Even when things don't go as planned!

:)

On my needles....

.... more socks.
I have been on a roll with the
socks!

Now remember...
I found one sock 3/4 of the way
finished
from last spring
so...
Here is the finished pair.

The stripes actually match
for a good part of this pair!
:D

And here is the latest pair....

This is a youth size sock,
so it knits much faster.
The yarn is
Happy Feet
but I don't know the color.

THIS is what I want to make next.

Isn't he cute?

It will be a challenge for me!
We shall see if he can be created or not.

Happy knitting!

Happy Birthday....

... to my Sister!

My sister LOVES
Orange.

I made this little quilt
a while ago,
knowing that it would live at
my sister's house this fall.

It says
Happy Bright Fall Days
to me.

When the Husband is away....

.... the sewing machine
works OVERTIME!

My husband has been at a meeting for the past few days,
SO...
I have been busy.

The Fall Table Runner is
Quilted and bound.

The stars are sewn onto both
Table Toppers.
They are finished!

AND...

I finished the applique border on the
Round Robin block
for my
History Club.
(The middle is covered up because the Round Robin
is a secret... I don't want the owner of the block
to see the progress.)

I miss my husband, but it has been a productive few days!

Happy Quilting!
