Knitting Needles Friday

During this past week, I had some
large chunks of time to
work on some knitting.

First, I was on a bus trip going to a
Basketball game ( my team won!!)
and almost finished

This pattern has such nice texture and is a fun
sock to make.
I am using Madelinetosh Sock Yarn in "Spectrum."

The second chunk of knitting time I had this past week
was not nearly as exciting as a
basketball game,
but I did get a fair amount of work done on
this sock:

I needed a mindless project, so this is a
Basic Sock with Opal yarn.
I do love the striping with this yarn.

I am also making this with the
Afterthought Heel...totally mindless.
(The Heel will be added where the
blue thread is seen...)

THEN...

I was in Michael's the other day and
found this book:

I have a friend who
LOVES
Sock Monkeys.

This book came home with me
along with some yarn
and this is what I have so far.

This is knitting up quickly
because of the larger needles and yarn.
So far, so good!

others are working on this week.

Happy Friday!

Design Wall Monday

This week I was hoping to have a
completed quilt top to show
But...
This Missouri Crossing
is a frustrating block for me
to make.

I don't know if it is me
or the block
but I can't seem to get the pieces where I want them to be.
(It is me!! :D)

Lots of trimming
but they are coming together.

This isn't quite half the blocks for the top.

Slow and steady wins the race.
(I'm not a slow and steady kind of person, but sometimes....)

THEN....
Look what I found!

"Santa's Toile"

For the backing!
This is going to be a Christmas Quilt
so....
How perfect!!
(AND it was $5/yard!!)
Christmas in January...
Gotta Love it!!

Friday Knitting

Here it is...
Friday already!

This week I do have one finish.

are finished and packaged
to be mailed to my
sister in law.

I really like this pattern!
I have another skein of this
Alpaca yarn and will probably make
this pattern again.

Next on the needles is...

I'm using a Madelinetosh Sock Yarn
in "Spectrum"
and LOVE working with this yarn.

This pattern is fun,
 easy and pretty mindless.
It has a neat heel,
but I might just use the
We shall see if I want to be counting, etc.

What's on your needles?

Happy Friday!

While the game is on....

I have a confession...
I LOVE College Basketball!
I Love to watch it on tv and in person.

You are probably wondering what this has to do with
Quilting??

Well...
When my team is playing an away game,
I cannot watch the game on tv.
I Have to be doing something
while I listen to the game
on the computer.

So last night there was an away game
and This is what I worked on while listening.

I made the borders for my little applique quilt.

Next comes the quilting!

Then...

I worked on some of
These sections for my
Missouri Crossing Quilt.

Here are all of the little piles,
waiting to be sewn together.

It was a productive evening
AND
My team won!!

Happy Quilting!!
(And Go Rams!!)

A Finish and Two WIP's...

This week did not find me in my
"Hidey Hole"
much at all,
but I do have a
Finish!

These are the blocks being made for
I decided I had made enough,
so put them together....
added a simple border....
and
Ta-Da...

A completed top!

This top was so much fun to make.

And so bright and cheery!

Next...
I have been able to add more to my

This is a tiny little quilt...
this section being
only 12 1/2" Square.

I need to applique the flower's centers
and four other circles to the piece.
Then the borders will be added.

And Finally....
My Missouri Crossing quilt
looks the same as last week,
BUT....

I did manage to get some trimming
done. These are ready to be
sewn into the blocks.

Lots of trimming!

My goal is to have these blocks
COMPLETED
this week!
We shall see, but they are calling for
SNOW tomorrow.
Please don't let us lose our power!

:)

Happy Quilting!

Knitting Needles Friday...

Not much knitting was
done this week.
Thankfully this pattern
moves along quickly,
so it LOOKS like
I accomplished a lot!

:)

Once again,
I am showing
a pair of
(I should have this link memorized by now!)

This yarn was given to me and is sock yarn
from an alpaca farm.
There are a lot of imperfections in the yarn...
a lot of nubs and
"big fat bumps"
for lack of a better term.

While it is fine for these mitts,
I think socks would have been
uncomfortable to wear with these imperfections.
The mitts will be warm, though!

Visit Patchwork Times to see what
others are knitting.

Have a GREAT Friday!!

I've had the itch....

... to do some
Applique lately.
It's been a while since
I have done any hand work!

So...
I pulled out the fabric and pattern
for this little piece.

It's a Kim Diehl pattern,
found in the December 2013
issue of American Patchwork and Quilting.

 I prepped the pieces and
started to stitch.

This is a small little quilt, so won't take
long to complete.
This section is 12 1/2" x 12 1/2".

Applique is so much fun in my book!

Happy Quilting!

Design Wall Monday

This week finds more
on my Design Wall
and I
LOVE them!

They are SO much fun to make!!

Again, I'm more of a
"Controlled" scrappy quilter,
but this is getting the scraps used!

Aren't these blocks so bright and cheery??!!!

I'm thinking of using this simple border
for the quilt.  It doesn't need much!

And....
I am slowly making these:

Missouri Crossing blocks...
I really like these, too.

This was a kit from one of my LQS's.
Love the colors.

Visit Patchwork Times for some
quilting eye candy!

Happy Quilting!

Remember these??

I have three quilt tops
that have been waiting to be
quilted and bound.
The woman who has done my
Long Arm quilting for years
has had to stop due to a
family illness.
It has taken me a while
to get the courage up
to use someone else.
I'm finally ready.
I really want these quilts finished!

Courthouse Steps for my sister.

I don't know why, but I think of
Barn Doors when I look at this quilt.

And the Blind Man's Fancy...
Quite possibly my most favorite of
the quilts I've made.

The backing fabric has been
cut, sewn and ironed
and is ready to be delivered
to a new Long Arm Quilter.

I'm excited!

Happy Quilting!

Knitting Needles Friday

I have my first finish of
2014
to share today!

The
is finished!
(Except for blocking it.)

These pictures are closest to the actual color of the shawl.

This was fun to knit...
and mindless, too!

Plus it kept me warm while I was
working on it.
Socks and mittens don't quite do that.
:)

On my needles I have
ANOTHER
pair of
Susie Rogers Fingerless Mitts.

My SIL sent me this yarn she bought at
an Alpaca farm.
It is sock yarn, but I think it's too nubby
for socks.  It will make nice
Fingerless mitts though!

Visit Patchwork Times to see what others are knitting.

Happy Knitting!

Slow piecing....

I have had
"Piecing Missouri Crossing"
on my
"Get It Done" list
for the last three months!

This week I finally began sewing the blocks together.
This one is going to take a while!
It's good for me to take some time on
a quilt and enjoy the process.

LOTS of HST's sewn and
waiting to be trimmed.

The rest of the pieces waiting for their turn to play.

I had to sew a few blocks together to see how
they will look.
I've been looking forward to working on this quilt
for a while and am excited to see it come together.

Hopefully it will be finished soon and put away for
Christmas!

Happy Quilting!
:)

Design Wall Monday....

...AND
 the First Finish
for 2014!!

Judy at Patchwork Times is hosting a
and I am joining in on the fun.

Each month she will give us a different block
to make from scraps.
(Go to the link above for more details.)

Well....
I THOUGHT I could do scrappy...
and quickly realized....
I am a CONTROLLED scrappy quilter!
Pulling pieces out of a bag and sewing
is not for me!
I just cannot do it.

BUT...
I am using my scraps in these blocks.

I have LOTS of batik scraps!
Aren't the colors so happy and fun?

THEN...
A Finish for 2014!!

Last night I finished hand sewing the binding to this quilt.
(While watching Downton Abbey!!)

The Baby Quilt is completed.

To think that I almost stopped making this
after the pinwheels were sewn together.
I am so pleased with how it turned out!

The backing is all recycled men's shirts, too.
The only part that is not made from the recycled shirts
is the binding,
but I found the perfect match to the sashing!

Do you name all of your quilts?
I have such a difficult time coming up with names
so I tend not to do it.
I do need to add the label to this little one, though.

Visit Judy at Patchwork Times to see what others are working on this week.

Happy Quilting!
:)
