Lent

For those of us of the Christian faith,
Lent began yesterday on Ash Wednesday.

This year for one of my Lenten disciplines,
I am going to abstain from my social media.
Things may be posted here just so I can keep track of
when I finish a project,
but I won't be reading or commenting on any blogs.

Peace and Joy to you and I'll see you after Easter.

Baby Quilt #4!

The year 2020 has been the year of the baby quilts for me!
I have finished three and delivered two of the three.
The fourth one won't be needed until April,
I think!
After this one is finished,
I don't think any will be needed for a while.

This one is for my nephew and his wife who are having
their third child.... their first daughter.
His wife loves orange.

This obviously needs are really good pressing!
Once it's pressed, it will be squared
and quilted.

This pattern was really fun and pretty easy to make.
It's called "Jelly Weave" and can be found here.

I'm looking forward to this one being finished!

Christmas Tree Skirt

Next month we are invited to the wedding of a
dear friends' son.
As some of you know,
my traditional wedding gift, when appropriate,
is a Christmas Tree Skirt.

The wedding will be here before we know it,
so the Christmas tree skirt needs to be made.

I saw a tree skirt on line and knew it would be an easy one to make.
The fabrics in the picture were dull and kind of boring.
Thankfully, I had a fat quarter bundle just waiting to be used.

The fabric line is "Splendid" by Robin Pickens.
I just love the colors and designs in this line.

Cardinals were fussy cut for the middles of these blocks.

Nice patches were made from some of the other fabrics.

This is the tree skirt so far.  I need to add some borders to make
it a bit larger and yardage needed to be ordered for these.
Hopefully it will arrive quickly and this can be finished.

Baby Quilt for Ethan is Finished!

The third baby quilt for the month of February
is finished except for the label.
Woohoo!!

This one went together more quickly
because the parts were cut already.
Last summer I had cut the parts to make a
big quilt using the Simply Woven pattern
and decided to make two small quilts instead.
The first baby quilt was gifted last summer.

The second quilt is done and will be gifted
at a baby shower at the end of the month.

This pattern works so well with all of my bright colored fabrics.
I found a white with black pindots for the background
that worked perfectly.

As much as I dislike pressing the seams open when
quilting, it was so important to do with these blocks.
Very few seams would have nested otherwise,
making for a bumpy quilt!

The label will be added and this quilt will be ready for
delivery on the 29th.

One more baby quilt to go and I'll be done with baby quilts for a while....
I think!!

I'm linking to Design Wall Monday today.

Margot's Baby Quilt

This Sunday I am invited to a baby shower for a
dear friend's daughter.
Not only is her daughter expecting,
but her daughter-in-law is due a few weeks after her daughter.
Her DIL will be at this shower, too, so I had to
have her baby quilt finished to deliver as well.
They live out of state and I don't like to mail quilts.

Anyway,
Lilly's quilt was finished a couple of weeks ago.

This week Margot's quilt was finished.

Margot's mom loves the Lilly Pulitzer fabrics,
so I thought this fabric combo resembled those fabrics.

This daisy print is one of my favorties!

Making triangle quilts is so much fun to me.
And they really show off the different fabrics.

I found this gorgeous blue minky for the backing.
The only problem with using minky is the quilts
are difficult to quilt. There is so much drag on them
that I have a difficult time moving them around for FMQ.
 Swirls it is!

This one is washed, labeled and ready for delivery.

MORE Baby Quilts!

At the end of last year, I knew that the first couple of months
would be filled with making baby quilts.
We have four friends and family having babies in April!
What I didn't know was that three of the showers would be in February!

You know what that means....
pedal to the metal!

Quilts number 2 and 3 are well on their way to being finished.
(Quilt #1 was finished last week. )

This is actually quilt #3.
Last year I made this same quilt and had cut the parts
to make a much larger quilt, but made a baby size instead.
Out came the bag of parts and the blocks were made.
The bonus is I cleared out another pile from my Hidey Hole
by using these parts for another quilt!
Woohoo!!

This is my kind of baby quilt!
This design is so fun and super easy to make.

The quilting will begin after quilt #2 is finished.

Here is the middle of quilt #2...

Triangle quilts are one of my favorites to make.
The middle is done, but I needed to order fabric for the border.
That arrived yesterday, so this one will be finished by the shower
on Sunday!

The fourth baby quilt has been planned and will be started
after these three are done.
That one isn't needed until April.
I do have a wedding in March,
so a Christmas Tree skirt will need to be made for the
bride and groom.

Happy Quilting!

Sunrise, Sunset

In September 2018 I was able to visit a wonderful quilt shop in
Rapid City, SD.
I didn't spend nearly enough time at this quilt shop,
but in the short time I was there,
I found a wonderful kit that came home with me.
Actually, I found a kit and my SIL found a different kit,
both by the same designer,
I made my SIL's kit last year
and mine was pulled out last month.

The kit is called "Moonshine"
but mine looks more like a sunrise or sunset.

The directions and pattern were very easy to follow
and this little wall hanging was fun to make.

I'm not sure where this will hang in my house,
but it will find a special place.
I don't think this will be my last JoAnn Hoffman design.

You can see the wall hanging I made for my SIL here.

Lilly's Baby Quilt

There is another population explosion in my world
this spring and the first baby quilt needed is for
Lilly, who will be born in April.
A shower for Lilly's mom is in less than two weeks
and the baby quilt is finished!

When I went shopping for the binding fabric,
I figured I'd get something pink
and continue with the soft, feminine theme.

Instead, I found this bright green gingham and love it!

I had fun quilting this baby quilt,
even though my seam ripper was needed
a fair amount.

Below are two photos taken in a hotel
that are as close to the true colors as I could get.

While these are not my typical colors for quilts,
I am really pleased with the finish.

A label needs to be made and stitched in place
and then this little quilt is finished.

I'm linking to Design Wall Monday today.
