Peanut Butter Blocks

A few months ago, one of my Bee mates in the Gridster Bee
asked us to make these
and I was hooked.
These blocks are really mindless sewing.

After having one of my quilts long arm quilted,
there was a lot of this backing fabric left over.
I kept looking at it and seeing it with solid fabrics.
Then I thought....
Peanut Butter Blocks!

For a couple of months I've been using
these blocks as leader/enders for other sewing
and then just finished making the blocks recently.
The main fabric is one of my favorites for backings
and I've used all three colorways.

I finished sewing the rows together yesterday and
now have a decision to make.

Do I need to add borders or is it finished?

The border fabric would probably be the same
fabric as the blocks unless I can find a stripe or something
with all of the colors.

This is one happy quilt!

The other day I made a few gifts from the faux leather vinyl
from Zipper Valley.
This vinyl is so easy and nice to use in these bags.
No quilting is needed.
The zipper tape and pulls came from Zipper Valley, too.

On to the next project!
I really need to get some backings made for quilts
that have been patiently waiting to be finished.
Maybe today will be the day!

Happy Quilting!

I think the quilt is perfect as is - no borders needed. The beautiful fabric in the squares just sings. Very cute little bags!

Such a beautiful quilt! I wouldn't add border to it, it looks great as it is.

I vote for no borders also;) It's just bright and fun the way it is. Love those bags!

What a fun quilt! Honestly, I'd add a border but it's also perfectly fine as it is.

Those bags are adorable! I love the diagonal zipper placement. As for your quilt, do you have a use/recipient in mind for it? That might influence the border decision, as it may be just the right size already for one purpose, but benefit from borders to increase the size for another purpose. Other than that, it's a style consideration. I have discovered on a couple of my quilts -- my giant pineapple log cabin quilt and my Spirit Song/Sermon Scribbles quilts specifically -- that adding borders substantially changed the look of both quilts and made them seem a little more "traditional/old fashioned" and less contemporary. It couldn't be helped with the pineapple log cabin quilt due to the giant block size; if I'd added another row of blocks instead of a border, the quilt would have been way too large to fit on any long arm frame in existence, let alone too big for even the biggest King size bed. With my throw size Spirit Song/Sermon Scribbles quilt, though, the borders feel a little like a copout and I regret them. I know I was bored with making blocks at the time and wanted to be done with the piecing and get to the fun quilting part, but now I look at that quilt and wish I'd made more blocks to get it to a usable throw size instead of doing borders. But as you know, it's all personal preference and how much time you want to invest in this quilt versus some other quilt you want to be making when this one is finished. Because I can also envision your peanut butter quilt with its relatively simply pieced center surrounded by a border of more intricately pieced blocks, or an appliqué border of some sort. I know whatever you decide will be lovely; you have such good instincts. Happy holidays to you and your family!

Looks like everyone voted for no borders--is that what you decided? Such a fun quilt and it is an inspiration for me. I have a lot of cool fabrics I don't want to cut up only to have them disappear into a quilt. This design preserves and cuts up the fabric: win-win!
