This past week was a pretty busy week,
but I was able to get a lot done on the
neck tie quilt.
All of the ties have had interfacing
ironed to the backs
and the shapes have been cut out,
ready to assemble.
It takes a while to make each block
since they are paper pieced.
This is where having a sewing machine with an
automatic thread cutter would come in very handy.
I don't have one. :(
I'm using the same fabric for the sky on each block...
a very dark blue shirting.
Initially, I found a photo of a quilt like this on Pinterest,
not realizing that it was from a book called
I happened upon the book one day and ordered it.
There are some beautiful quilts in this book made from ties.
This combination is one of my favorites so far.
I haven't decided if I will just keep making these blocks
until I'm finished with them,
or if I will intersperse these with blocks for another quilt.
It took me over two hours to make six blocks yesterday.
Not my usual rate of production, for sure!
Right now I'll keep moving forward on this quilt.
I'm linking to Design Wall Monday today.
Happy Quilting!
I love your choice of blocks. This is going to be a fabulous quilt. You are a good friend.
ReplyDeleteI like your design! It's the best use of ties I've seen.
ReplyDeleteAnother great tie quilt. I have an automatic thread cutter but it doesn't always cooperate!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful blocks! Is this fabric easy to sew on? Or is it slippery and difficult to control? I have a box of neckties and keep looking for ideas.
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking with Design Wall Monday - did you see the other linkup with neckties? (No. 2). It is a quilt design with leaves, all made from men's neckties. I love your quilt, and especially the block that is your favorite. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThe blocks are turning out wonderfully! It does take time to paper piece but it's worth it in the end! I love your choice of background fabric.
ReplyDeleteI just gave another quilter my husband's old ties. Your quilt is going to be great!
ReplyDeleteI am not sure why your comments are not showing up in my blog. I have approved them, but blogger doesn't listen to me. :( Just know I am not ignoring what you say and appreciate your stopping by!
I really like the blocks, Ramona. They may not be your typical speed, but they are going to make a spectacular quilt.
ReplyDeleteThis is so gorgeous! This quilt will be amazing!
ReplyDeleteWow...finally catching up on reading blogs. Love this tie quilt! And I so enjoyed reading about your travels to Salt Lake City, Wyoming and South Dakota. Beautiful pictures. Did you know the Bucilla factory in Georgia had a fire? I read they are hoping to get kits back in production in November...I guess having an extensive stash of kits is a good idea after all!
