First of all,
How did we ever live without
YouTube Vidoes?
Really!
I taught myself to knit socks by watching
YouTube Videos.
I learned some furniture repair tips by
watching YouTube videos.
I have made several quilts after watching
YouTube videos.
Where am I going with this?
Well,
do you remember the HUGE goof I made a few weeks back
where I made the wrong size block for the mystery quilt I am making?
I needed the small size block.
After much thought I decided to make the star blocks again
because I didn't want the larger size quilt.
Out came the Tri Recs rulers and fabric (again)
and the cutting commenced.
For some reason I tend to go about things in the most difficult way.
I cut the background triangle pieces and began pinning these
to the larger triangles.
I folded back the background triangle to make sure it was placed right...
it'd be too far up.
Move the triangle, pin, check...
too far down.
Move it again...
There HAS to be an easier way to do this!
LIGHTBULB MOMENT!!
I googled Tri Recs rulers and Guess What?!?
There is a YouTube Video to show how to use the darn things.
And another Guess What!
That little notch on the end of the ruler??
It has a function!!
Cut that little notch from the triangle
and this piece fits onto the
larger triangle in the exact spot needed to
stitch it on correctly.
It's amazing how much faster and easier these pieces go
together when one knows how to use the tools properly!
Now...
on the off chance that I am not the LAST person to learn this trick
Here is the YouTube video I watched.
I'm off to sew the blocks together now....
no tools necessary for this step!
Happy Quilting!!
It pays to read the directions, too. However, who saves the directions for all the rulers we acquire? Or, like me, forgets where the directions are stored? Glad you conquered the triangles. Your blocks are going to be pretty with those marine blues.
ReplyDeleteHa.....aren't those videos amazing?
ReplyDeleteI am a huge fan of rulers with trimmed tips to help pieces line up. Glad you figured this one out!
ReplyDeleteOh yes where would we be without You Tube and Pintrest, my favorites~~
