I don't remember when I started making this little
Christmas tree skirt, but it was a while ago.
The parts were cut and some were assembled
and then they were all put into a bag and forgotten.
This kit came off the shelf last week and is now a finish!
I watched the Youtube video from Missouri Star for using these templates
and had a charm pack with cooking fabrics already.
At Christmas time I put a tree in my kitchen
with kitchen related ornaments on it.
The tree skirt I've used was an old one and needs
to be retired.
Now is the time!
This is the pattern and the templates used
are below.
These hexagons went together very quickly.
There is a piece of batting in each hexagon,
cut the same size as the inner fabric.
The hexagons were zigzagged together
with a narrow stitch.
I didn't pay any attention to the placement of the backing
solid fabrics and like the randomness of the back.
I left the half seam in the back unstitched so it can be
placed around the tree.
I see another tree skirt made like this in my future....
Like maybe for my other niece who needs one. :)
The next kit has been chosen and work has started!
I'm linking to Design Wall Monday today.
Happy Quilting!
I remember seeing a tutorial on those hexie's at MSQC, looks kinda fun! And your tree skirt turned out darling. Your new project looks like packman!!
ReplyDeleteI have that set of rulers, but would not have thought of doing a tree skirt using those QAYG hexies. How clever and adorable!
ReplyDeleteVery nice finish with the tree skirt. And I also think your new project blocks remind me of Packman. It will be fun to see it progress in the coming weeks!
ReplyDeleteJust look at all the pretty hexies. LOVE!! A gorgeous tree skirt which will be the star of the show every Christmas Zig zagging all the hexies together would have have been quick. I always hand stitch my QAYG hexies, but then I do rather love the slowness of hand stitching.=)
ReplyDeleteI love the tree skirt. That will be fun to use next year. Looking forward to seeing the newest Drunkards Path project.
ReplyDeleteI have finally found that I can use a different browser to leave comments.
ReplyDeleteThe tree skirt is amazing, I have never seen such a technique.
One of my plans is to try curved piecing, but I don't have any fabrics chosen.

That's really pretty! I love the black included in the palette.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea for a tree skirt. I really like how it turned out: both the front and the b ack.
ReplyDeleteWow I love your hexi piece so much!!
