My Mom

Two weeks ago today my family lost our anchor.
My mom, who was 81 years old, left this earth
for a much better place.
It was a sudden death, thank God.
She would not have wanted to suffer
and become more of a burden to us.

My five siblings and our spouses,
along with her 13 grandchildren and spouses,
her 18 great grandchildren
and her last remaining sibling,
along with a few friends
all gathered for her funeral.

It was a sad and joyous event.
My family always finds reasons for laughter.
There were many, many tears,
but so much laughter, too.
 Mom would have loved that.
And after her funeral we all gathered at a park
and grilled cheeseburgers while the
kids all ran and played.
Mom would have loved that, too.
Cheeseburgers were her favorite food.

My mom was the best grandmother I've seen.
No matter what her grandchildren were interested in,
she was interested and read up on the topic so she
could discuss it with the grandchild.
Nothing brought her pleasure like being with her family.

My cousin, who is a Baptist minister,
had some wonderful words for us.
He said those of us here are suffering from separation,
but my mom has had a wonderful reunion.
This is so true.

Mom,
you are greatly missed,
but I know you are loving being back with dad,
your parents and brothers
and meeting all of the ancestors you've researched
and had questions for over the years.

We love you.

  6. Ramona, I am saddened to read of the passing of your beautiful mom. She sounds as if she was the most wonderful lady, whose joy was her family. Such a fabulous way in which to celebrate her life; a picnic in the park. 'Tis fitting you all cried together and laughed too, with all the beautiful memories of her safe in all your hearts. Your tribute of your mom is beautiful. Please take care at this most sorrowful time♡

  11. What a beautiful tribute! I'm so sorry for your loss. My Mom is 82 and I can't imagine what you are going through. I'm not ready and I'm grateful for the Mom card that I drew at birth! It sounds like you won the "Mom lottery" too!

  12. Oh Ramona. I am so sorry for your loss, but grateful that you are surrounded by the comfort of a loving family and a wonderful pastor who is able to help put your grief in the context of your faith. “For we do not grieve as those who have no hope…”. 1 Thessalonians 4:13. Lifting you and your family in my prayers tonight, and sending you a big hug through the Internet.

  13. so sorry about your mom but it sounds like she had a wonderful family - it sounds like you do your funerals we do - with laughter and tears - remembering the one you love and the life she had - a family barbecue is a good way to deal with it I think.
