Quilt for Mom

My mom loves the reproduction fabrics.
The colors just speak to her.
She sees some of the my usual quilts,
with bright and bold fabrics,
and, while she isn't rude,
she will say
"That's really nice, but please don't make a quilt like that for me."

This quilt was started some time ago...
maybe last spring?

I decided it would be her Christmas gift,
but I didn't decide early enough to get it quilted and finished for Christmas.
I wrapped the top and took it back after she opened it.

This past week I was able to get it quilted.
Just a meander pattern on the rented long arm machine.
It's bound and ready to return to her.

When I took it back from her to finish it, she made me promise
that I wouldn't keep it.

Don't worry, Mom. It's nice, but it's not my style.

I'm linking to Design Wall Monday today.

Happy Quilting!

  1. I understand why she likes it -- simple, but elegant. Good daughter!

  2. I love the old fashioned look - it is very comforting and homey - my mom liked these types too, I like a mixture. Some people I have found do not find the bright modern quilts relaxing and calming.

  3. When I looked at the first picture, I thought - oh that is a nice quilt. Such earthy tones - like a grandma's hug. And then I saw the next picture(s) and realized that you had put it on point. WOW!!! That added a touch of modern chic to it. Of course, she loves it. It is perfect.

  4. My mom and I had different tastes too, my daughter and I have different tastes. It's all good and what makes the world go round! I think it is pretty, but I like both brights and the more muted colors. I am sure she was/is thrilled with it and that counts!

  5. What a cozy quilt! I like the way the red setting triangles pop.

  6. It is beautiful. I love her comment about you keeping it. Those burgundy setting triangles are so pretty in there.

  7. I love those red triangles, they add a nice frame. I love the strong visual lines on the quilt.

    Well done!

  8. It's lovely. What is the pattern called?

  9. I love the more traditional quilt patterns! I love how this quilt gives me the feeling of homey & comfortable! Might I ask, what are the cutting dimensions you used for your blocks & the finished size of your quilt?!

  10. I love the pattern. Would you mind sharing where you got it?

  11. Could you lease tell me what the pattern is called and where I may find it. Thank you

  12. I would like the pattern as well.

  13. Could you tell me where the pattern is from?
