Boy...
Time is really getting away from me this summer.
Here we are at the end of July
and I feel like I have done very little in the blog and quilting
department this month.
Part of the reason is the upcoming wedding of my daughter
and who knows what the other part is!
I do have a finish to share today!
Last week, before going to Charlotte for some wedding things,
I quilted this tumbler quilt and sewed the binding to it.
While in Charlotte, I was able to stitch the binding to the back
and finished it!
The photos were taken after dinner,
so the sun wasn't as bright.
The colors are a bit brighter then shown here.
The tumblers are all Kaffe fabrics
and from my collection of text fabrics.
They alternate except for the first and last two rows.
I found this fun text fabric for the backing, too.
This quilt was an attempt at a
leader/ender project
and worked for a while.
I get too impatient with the
leader/enders and just want to finish the top.
This is a late graduation gift for a dear family friend.
I quilted it with organic lines from top to bottom.
Now it just needs a label and to be wrapped.
Happy Quilting!
I really like the more colorful top and bottom rows; they're like punctuation marks at the beginning and ending.
ReplyDeleteseeing yours makes me want to do another one! I have one big one that I did for the camper and a smaller one for a picnic table covering - I just love the tumbler though and can see another in my future - the big one I did had little tumblers made from 2.5 inch squares and the picnic covering was made from 5 inch charms I think - cut in the tumbler shape of course what size are yours?
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the finish, it's beautiful, lucky is the person that receives it. Can you believe it is already Aug. the time has just flown by.
ReplyDeleteYour tumbler quilt is gorgeous! I bought the 4" tumbler die for my Accuquilt GO! Baby but I am trying to be disciplined about finishing up some other quilts that have been WIPS for way too long before I start on a new project. Congrats on your daughter's wedding and I hope you had a great time in Charlotte -- that's my neck of the woods, so consider yourself especially welcome whenever you come to the Queen City!
ReplyDeleteI love the tumblers! The Kaffe fabrics really make this one pop. Great finish.
ReplyDeleteThat is really pretty. I love Kaffe fabrics. I have to laugh that you started as leader ender and then it became a main project. I try my best to do leader ender but I too get impatient and want to finish that project as well.
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy seeing those Kaffe fabrics in a project. You did a fantastic job with the tumblers. Good luck with all the wedding prep. Happy sewing! --Andrea
ReplyDeleteI am glad you got to finish this quilt, it's one I love. What a great gift! How fun on the wedding plans, busy but fun times!
ReplyDeleteRIFLOL.....I had my comment all prepared and realized it was nearly word for word what Sewing Up A Storm said. I, too, have tried tumblers as well as squares as leaders/enders and simply CANNOT wait to get enough for a quilt---I always give up and just sew the tumblers or squares or half-square triangles. It is comforting to know I'm not the only one who fails at this. I sure hope Bonnie Hunter doesn't read this! I just love the backing fabric. Well done, Ramona. It's a great graduation gift.
ReplyDeleteThose are my kind of fabrics - Kaffe Fassett. That is my kind of quilting - random gently curving lines using walking foot. You must be my long-lost sister!!! Love everything about this tumbler quilt.
