Last year I made 12 wool applique basket pieces
and set them in the middle of the Friendship Star blocks.
My intention was to make one big quilt with these blocks for a
Christmas quilt.
The more I looked at these blocks, the more I thought I didn't want a huge
quilt made with them.
Instead, I would make three smaller wall-hanging size quilts.
Well, the third one is finally finished.
The first two were finished in the beginning of the year
and one has been gifted.
The other is staying here, at least for now.
This one will be gifted, too.
Doing wool applique is so relaxing to me.
There are no seams to turn...
the wool feels so good in my hands...
The colors are so deep and rich...
and I love it when paired with cotton fabrics.
All this quilt needs is a label and it will be sent to
the person for whom it was made.
One more thing checked off of my "to be quilted" list.
Yay!!
Happy September!
It's beautiful Ramona! What a great accomplishment to have all 3 done and off your list! Now you can play with something new and exciting :*)
ReplyDeleteLovely. Just wondering -- how does one wash a combo cotton/wool quilt? I can see a wall hanging wouldn't need washing, but if you had made the bigger quilt ....
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! Lucky friends or family who receive these as gifts. I think you made a great choice to split them up and make 3 smaller projects. I think it highlights the design even more than a big quilt might have.
ReplyDeleteOMG!!! Please don't tell my husband of 44 years but I've just fallen in love all over again...lol! I love wool applique but have never combined it with cotton. This is absolutely gorgeous and I love it! I'm starting to feel kind of badly about wanting to copy just about everything you make. I hope you truly believe "imitation IS the sincerest form of flattery"...not that this was flattery---just the honest truth. (Still working on my own "Amish with a Twist"...but I did see an affordable kit for version III....I'm considering.............)
ReplyDeleteThis is just so charming Ramona! I always love the look of wool applique. Your blocks are really beautiful!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful work, Ramona. There is something wonderful and appealing about those colors together. They will make great gifts.
ReplyDeleteI've seen the block before but I love what you did with it. I would love to receive such a gift. Your appliqué is beautiful. Congratulations on a wonderful finish (es).
