Design Wall Monday

I have added some more blocks to my

Design Wall this week.

I usually don't take this long to sew a quilt together,

but I have been making a lot of small items for 

my church's bazaar.

It's nice to have this to work on here and there.

The blocks won't stay in this layout.

I'm just putting them up in pairs

so I can sew them into blocks quickly

when I have a few minutes.

The solid fabrics are so rich...

they almost look like suede.

This will continue to grow with little bits of

time here and there.

Little Finishes

I am slowly getting items finished

for my church's bazaar next month.

This week I was able to finish the

Tree Ornaments

and checked those off of my list.

I finally found the star buttons at

Hobby Lobby.

I also made some pot holders to put in the bazaar.

I've finished about half of what I hope to make.

These take longer to make than I thought they would,

but I'm happy with the results.

 

Onto the next items.

Friday Sock Day

As much as I want to knit other things,

I always end up with socks on my needles!

I think it's because they are relatively fast to knit,

they are in my comfort zone,

and they make great gifts!

Here is my latest...

This pair was started, ripped out, started, ripped out, started, ripped out and

started.

I just did not like the patterns I tried,

therefore... back to the vanilla sock.

They will be for a friend of my daughter's for Christmas.

My daughter asked me to make a pair for each of her two best friends.

This yarn is so much fun!

Pot Holders

I have sewn since I was 8 years old

and I don't think I have ever made a pot holder before today.

These take longer than I thought they would!

I'm adding these to the pile for my

Church's bazaar.

I'm using fabric from my stash.

 

I saw these potholders here

and thought they would go together quickly.

 

Four done and a bunch more to make!

Monday Polka Dots...

Well,

I couldn't wait any longer....

Even with all of the little things I need to finish

on the projects for my church Bazaar,

I had to start a new quilt.

A while back I bought this kit from one of my LQS's.

I LOVE polka dots!

This was a great quilt for me to work on now

because I didn't have to put a lot of thought into it.

I pulled out the fabric and began cutting, sewing and trimming.

Blocks ready to be used.

I love the rich colors in these fabrics.

This design is so striking to me...

Polka dots with the angles.

I'll keep sewing the squares up as I get a few minutes

and eventually it will be a top!

I have some of my tree ornaments ready for binding.

I'm having trouble finding little star buttons or beads.

Any suggestions?

Froggie Went a Courtin'

A while back I made an Army of Frogs

for the Fall Bazaar at my church.

 

While I was putting these together,

a number of people asked for one to be held for them.

Therefore, I needed to make a few more for the bazaar.

I finally finished these last night!

This bunch is made from flannel and are not quilted,

but should be nice and warm.

(I had these flannel scraps left over from a quilt I made years ago.)

 

 

They are filled with rice (about 50 pounds total!!)

and can be heated in the microwave, 

then placed on a sore or achy spot.  Aaaahhhh.

Friday, Friday

Boy, this week flew past!

I don't have a lot to show for it,

at least in my Hidey Hole.

A pair of socks has been finished!

I love this pattern....

love the texture and the look.

It did get off the tracks at one point, though.

I didn't notice it until the sock was almost finished.

It adds character, right??

The pattern came from this book.

I love the patterns, but I don't think I will ever

knit two socks at the same time.

 

The yarn is a bamboo yarn, which is nice and soft.

It split easily while knitting, though.

 

I started two different socks and ripped them both out after getting 

a few inches done. I just did not like them.

Something new will be started soon!

Back at it!

I am back in my "Hidey Hole!"

YAY!!

Right now I have so many little things that

need to be finished for the bazaar my church is having

next Month.

Today I will make a master list of all these things

and begin to check them off as they are completed.

 I did complete one set of ornaments for the bazaar....

The wreath ornaments

I had ten, but gave one with the Tree skirt as a wedding gift.

 :)

I did begin working on a new quilt this week.

I HAVE to have something going!

The cutting is done, so the piecing can begin.

Disappearing Act

I've been gone, but I am back!

For the first time in a long time...

maybe since Blogging,

I have nothing new to show today!

Last Wednesday I took the train to visit my

Sister-in-law in Montclair, NJ.

She invited me up to see a quilt exhibit at the 

Montclair Art Museum.

The quilter is Yvonne Wells and she is from Alabama....

Quite an interesting exhibit!

We went to a lecture given by Ms. Wells and an

art professor, Dr. Nell Painter.

Learning about Ms. Wells quilting path was also very interesting...

Ms. Wells has never had a sewing lesson or quilting lesson,

and only quilts from the heart

so her quilting is "right" or "perfect."

If you are in the area, it would be worth going to the

Montclair Art Museum to view the quilts on display.

Fourteen quilts are Ms. Wells' and the rest of the quilts in the

exhibit were made by  other women from Alabama.

This is Ms. Wells self portrait.

She uses fabric and embellishments that she finds or has been given.

When she is making her quilts, she just begins cutting her pieces...

no drawing, no patterns, just cuts. 

If only I could cut loose just a little!

I will have something new to show soon!

Ornament Week

For the first time in YEARS

I do not have a large quilt in progress.

This will have to be remedied soon!

This week I have Ornaments on my Design Wall.

I realized that the Bazaar my church is having

this fall is only a month and a half away!

I need to get going!!

So this is what I have been working on this weekend....

The binding needs to be stitched down on the back,

a little hand quilting will be done

and bows will added to the front of these

wreath ornaments.

 (The binding is pinned and ready to stitch...

makes for some bumpy looking ornaments.)

These trees need to be quilted,

have beads added,

and then bound.

Hopefully in the next few days these will be finished

and I'll move to the next item on my

Bazaar list....

Knitting Friday

The knitting needles were in motion this week.

I'm working on some socks to give as gifts

and the fact that it is October 3rd threw me for a loop!

This pair is finished and set aside for Christmas.

I love the texture of this pattern,
but will not use the k1p3 for the ribbing again.
I like a tighter cuff.

This is a Saki Bamboo yarn in
"Crayon Box"... perfect for my Art Teacher friend!


This next pair is so much fun to knit!
There is a 4 row pattern and I have made a few mistakes,
but who can tell?

These colors aren't as bright as the picture shows.

This yarn is so soft and squishy,
but it does split easily.

Both of these socks are from this book:

I have not come close to mastering
2-at-a-time socks.
In fact, I can't even figure out how to cast on both pair
on the same needles!

I do like the patterns, though.

Another Baby Quilt Delivered

This Baby Quilt was started a while ago

and I finally quilted and bound it this week.

It has been delivered to my church

for our Baby Quilt Ministry.

I used a Layer Cake to make this quilt.

Each piece was cut into the same size pieces

and then I rearranged the pieces, stitched them

back together and squared the blocks.

 

It was quick to put together and made a cute quilt.
