About once a year I take a couple of days
and cut out quilts.
I gather my fabric,
iron it all,
decide what quilts I'm making with the fabric
and cut away.
Then, when I have a bit of time to sew,
but don't feel like cutting
I pull one of my pre-cut quilts out to work on and
just sew away.
Well,
I'm down to my last pre-cut quilt
from my cutting time about a year ago!
I started sewing the blocks over the weekend
and have half of them sewn together.
(I see that a few blocks need to be rearranged.
Photos are wonderful at showing what isn't working!)
It was so nice to pull the pieces out of the bin,
begin chain piecing and have a bunch sewn together
in no time.
This is half of the blocks for this quilt.
(Please excuse my crooked placement on the DW!)
What I'm trying to decide now is if I am going to make the
bed size quilt or divide it in two and make two smaller quilts
the size of the one above.
I don't need a bed size quilt at the moment
and
two of these would make lovely gifts that could be used as a
wall hanging or table topper.
Plus....
I could machine quilt these smaller ones myself.
I think the decision has been made.

Happy Quilting!
I like to pre-cut, as well. It's especially helpful for guild sit-n-sew days. I can grab a box and my travel machine and go. One thing I've learned to do: label the box with any special tools/rulers required to complete the project.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could be that organized. Flying by the seat of my pants on most days.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a cutting day is in order. It is so nice to be prepared to just sew the day away when the mood strikes.
ReplyDeleteI like how this is looking already. Really like the colour placements,
ReplyDeleteYou're cutting system is so organized! I like the concept of having projects pre-cut so you can just sew. These lap quilts will make very nice gifts.
ReplyDeleteThat's a lovely quilt!!
ReplyDeletebeautiful quilt! sometimes I cut extra strips too when I am cutting I should dig in the closet and see what my next project could be with cut strips.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt! What a great idea to cut out all the fabrics at once. That's my least favorite part of quilting is all the cutting.
ReplyDeleteI tend to cut out when it's time to start a new quilt.
ReplyDeleteI did buy a laser cut quilt recently so that I will have it when I run out of other projects at retreat! Not that that is a likely scenario.
Helen
what a great idea to have some kits made up already to sew. I do like this block/s. Looks great together.
ReplyDeleteWhat a neat quilt and I like the idea of cutting up a bunch of quilts to have them ready to go. I always enjoy cutting.
ReplyDeleteVery neat looking but yet easy quilt! I too do some precutting so things will be ready, but I am out of them right now.
ReplyDeleteYou have a great system going there. I pre-plan quilts and have several waiting for me now. Maybe the cutting ahead would help me get them done, instead of moving on to yet another plan! tee hee
ReplyDeleteOh I really like your idea to pre-cut ahead of time. And your quilt is coming together sonicely--great colorways, hugs, Julierose
