Design Wall Monday...

Last year I decided to participate in the
"Just Take 2" block of the month.

I did really well for the first three months...
Kept up with the blocks...
Even made the ones I didn't like....
and suffered through all of the paper piecing.
(I'm not a fan....)

THEN...
the wheels fell off.

Too many blocks I wasn't wild about...
I dropped farther and farther behind...
and then gave up.

Well...
I have all of these blocks finished
AND
I need to do SOMETHING with them!

First I put them all on my NEW design wall.
:)

Then I found the directions for assembly of the
first three months blocks and decided to
put this section together.

Here is what I have:

I think I will at least sew these together
and see if I feel motivated to do any more.
I have about half of the second quarters
blocks completed.

After seeing these blocks together,
I realize that this is not my style
of quilting at all.

Live and learn!

Happy Quilting!

  2. I'm a sucker for red and white, so I love it! Its one that I've been wanting to join in making...but you know how it is...its on the list.

  3. Very pretty, red and white is so striking. Sounds like this was a live and learn project. Those can be hard to finish, but bring their own satisfaction. Good luck.

  4. I hope your fine sewing job is enough to encourage finishing what you've already done--they are beautiful!

  6. I don't have all my blocks completed either, but I do have at least one section sewn together. I really like that large block on the right side between the flying geese. I don't remember doing it -- perhaps I'll have to pull JT2 back out after the first of the year.

  7. It's lovely. I did the whole thing and won Best of Show with it. Not for the faint of heart, for sure. Yours is wonderful, even if it ends right there.

  8. I think what you've done is beautiful! I know what you mean about those BOM projects -- It's so hard to know if you'll enjoy it for the long haul when you don't know what the project is going to look like until it's finished. The blocks you have completed are exquisite, though. Even if it's not your personal style, I think you should sew the blocks you have together into whatever size top that turns out to be, adding a couple of blocks or borders if you need to, and then layer and baste it so you can use it for FMQ practice. It would be great for trying out new quilting motifs on each of the blocks, and you'd be more comfortable taking "risks" with new quilting patterns knowing that you weren't in love with this project to begin with. I know that, for me, I tend to chicken out and go with "safe" quilting designs if I've labored over a quilt top that I love and I'm terrified to ruin it by attempting a quilting design that I haven't completely mastered. Once you've finished using it for quilt practice, you can either keep it as a "reference" of the different quilting designs you were playing with, or give it as a gift, or donate it if you never want to see it again. :-) It truly is beautiful, and the blocks were masterfully executed. Anyone would be delighted to receive a quilt like that.

  9. You did better than I did. I have only made 10 blocks from the whole year. I gave up halfway through and just saved the pattern files when I remembered. It was a busy year for me. The red and white is a striking combo.
