Design Wall Monday

This past long weekend found me
out of town on a business trip with my husband.
What's a girl to do while the meetings are going on?
Sit and enjoy the gorgeous views
while sewing binding on two quilts!
My "Mardi Gras" quilt is finished!

For someone who really does not like purple,
I LOVE this quilt!

The backing really shows off the quilting.
My Long Arm Quilter did a beautiful job.

Too big for the design wall, so...
It's on the Design Floor.

The other quilt I was able to finish was
"Christmas Crossing."

As frustrating as this quilt was to make,
I am so pleased with the results.

This will be a fun quilt to pull out at Christmas.

And I still Love this backing fabric!

On my Design Wall this week is another baby quilt.
This one will be donated to a group my church supports.

It is bright and bold and fun!!

I have a couple two more rows of blocks to sew
and then will redistribute the blocks to even out the
colors some... if possible!

This quilt was made with a charm pack and a jelly roll.

OH... my husband LOVED his quilt I made him for our anniversary!
 :)

Knitting Friday

A little knitting was done this past week...
I made some progress on the

The good news is....
Last week I wasn't sure about the
self-striping yarn with this pattern,
but it is working out nicely.

The stripes are thin enough that
they don't over power this little sock.

Happy Friday!

A Baby Quilt Finish...

I am going to be a Grand Aunt again...
In July.
:)
And I have the baby quilt made
Already!!

This quilt is the one I made with the
Scrappy Challenge blocks for January.
I just picked it up last week from my
Long Arm Quilter...perfect timing!

My Niece loves bright and wild and colorful
and this fits the bill!

She is having a girl, so all of the
pink and purple will be just fine for the little one.

 Love the batiks!

I had the perfect binding fabric...
combines most all of the colors in the quilt.

You can see the swirls my Long Arm Quilted into
the quilt so beautifully.

This will be put away until
Little Miss Great Niece
arrives.

Happy Quilting!

Doll Quilt Swap

For the first time I participated in a
Doll Quilt Swap hosted by
Lori at Humble Quilts.
(Actually, it's the first time participating in any kind of swap.)

Yesterday I received my little gem in the mail
and
Oh My Goodness!!

Jill M. from Pennsylvania was my swap partner
and she sent me
This Beauty.

I just love this...
The design, the fabrics, the colors...

But especially the quilting...

All done by hand in
tiny, perfect little stitches.
(The stitching isn't this obvious in person..
The flash makes it stand out,
but you can really see Jill's beautiful stitches this way!)

Just gorgeous.
This really has an antique look and feel about it.
Thank You so much, Jill!!
I couldn't be more pleased.

Lori is going to have a Linky party soon.
I'll be sure to share when that happens.

Happy Quilting!!

Design Wall.... or not

This week I have several projects in the works,
but nothing really on my Design Wall.

Using a Charm Pack and a Jelly Roll of bright fabrics,
I cut another baby quilt out and have started
piecing it together.

This one will be for donation to a group
my church supports.

On Saturday I picked up
"Mardi Gras"
from my Long Arm Quilter!!
Yippee!!
She did a beautiful job on this quilt.

The binding is sewn on and ready to hand stitch.

I was able to prep three more blocks for my
Classic Santa Quilt.

Making these with wool applique
really adds depth to the blocks.

I must say...
I have never seen a dark haired Santa before now.
He is called the Knickerbocker Santa.
His name comes from being the
Patron Saint of the New York Historical Society,
(also known as the Knickerbockers)
who had their annual dinners on
December 6, St. Nicholas Day.
(His looks like he is busting a Disco dance move!)

So there is your useless tidbit of information for the day.
:)

Friday Knitting

Not much was accomplished
in the knitting area this week.

I continue to work on these socks...

Using #1 needles takes a bit longer to knit! :)
I would like to have these done by next Friday, but...

The other night I did not want to work on the socks above,
so started another pair of the Turkish Bed Socks.
I have made a few pair of these and really like how they fit.
Plus, they knit up pretty quickly.

I'm not sure I like this yarn with these socks.
I haven't used self striping yarn when I've made them before,
but I will work more on them and then decide
to rip or not to rip.
:)

Ready for Wrapping!

The Anniversary gift for my husband is
Finished!!
With time to spare! :)

I am really pleased with how this little quilt turned out.

As I was making this,
I thought of all the great Beach vacations
we have been able to take.
Hopefully there will be many more to come!

The quilting went somewhat according to plan....
the water didn't turn out like I wanted, but....

The hair just makes me smile!

Can you see the heart under their hands?

This will be given on April 27th.....
Our 29th Anniversary!

Happy Quilting!!

Ready for Quilting....

The Applique is finished
and
the Borders are sewn onto this little quilt.

I am ready for the Beach...
But will have to wait. :(

I have sketched in lines to use as guides for quilting.
This is not my forte, so I hope I can come close to quilting
what I have in my mind.

The fish in the water is too cute.

Oh Happy Day!

A Quick Baby Quilt

A friend of my husbands is having a baby
so my husband asked if I would make them a quilt.
Of course!

I had a couple of packages of 5" squares
in the perfect fabrics for a little girl
and the sewing began.

I paired up the squares and sewed two seams
along a drawn diagonal line....

Trimmed them up to 4 1/2" squares...

Arranged them on my design wall.....

And began to sew the rows together.

I hope to finish sewing the rows together tomorrow.

I also was able to get my man's hair sewn on today.

Making this quilt has been a challenge...
I usually only do hand work in the evening,
but I don't want my husband to see this.
It's coming along!

Happy Quilting!!

Applique is coming along....

This past week I was able to get
quite a bit done on this
Anniversary gift for my husband.

This just makes me smile!
And this is my husband and me....
I'm a little "fluffy" (or maybe a lot!)...
my husband is more than little bald...
(This guy will have a little hair when he is finished.)
and we LOVE the beach...

I've had this pattern for a long, long time
and am glad I am finally getting it made.
Flowers will be added to her hat
and a few things will be added to the sand.

I did learn a new trick while making this quilt.
To get the shadowing on the skin,
the pattern author suggested using a
marker and a small paint brush.

I rubbed the paint brush on the marker
and then dabbed some of this onto a scrap piece of fabric,
like you would when stenciling.
After this I dabbed it where the shadowing marks were on the pattern.

You can see the faint shadowing just under her hat,
along her bathing suit bottom line and
along the knees.
It adds just enough.

Hopefully the applique will be finished this week and
I can get the quilting done next week.
